"The Simpsons" Will Pay Tribute To Marcia Wallace, Mrs. Krabappel, On Sunday
The Simpsons will pay tribute to Marcia Wallace, who played cynical schoolteacher Edna Krabappel on the long-running series, this Sunday. Wallace, also known for playing randy receptionist Carol Kester on the original Bob Newhart Show, died at age 70 last week.
At 7:30pm, a regularly scheduled episode of American Dad is being replaced with a classic Simpsons episode which spotlighted Krabappel. "Bart the Lover" from the show's third season, sees Bart playing with Edna's heart by sending her fake responses to a personal ad. The episode embodies The Simpsons' understated combination of humor and heart, and won Wallace an Emmy Award in 1992.
At 8pm, a new Simpsons episode, “4 Regrettings and a Funeral,” will end with a tribute card from the producers honoring Wallace.
“I was tremendously saddened to learn this morning of the passing of the brilliant and gracious Marcia Wallace,” producer Al Jean said in a statement earlier this week. “She was beloved by all at The Simpsons and we intend to retire her irreplaceable character.”
