Emmy nominee Laverne Cox shines a spotlight on transgender youth with The T Word, premiering simultaneously on MTV and Logo this Friday at 7pm.

Part of MTV’s Look Different campaign, the one-hour documentary explores the intersection of race and gender identity through the journey of seven young trans people from around the country.

While the trans community faces intolerance, prejudice and even violence, it's incredible to see how many young trans people are thriving, with resources, support and peers not available to earlier generations.

"A lot of their stories parallel my own, [but] them transitioning so early is not quite the reality I lived," Laverne tells us in the clip below. "I look at [12-year-old] Zoey, and how supportive her mother is, and I'm just amazed."
