The Wanted's Video For "Walks Like Rihanna" Gives Us '90s Boy-Band Deja Vu
We we were a little wary when we first came across The Wanted's new single, "Walks Like Rihanna": Who wouldn't be, with lyrics like "She can't sing/she can't dance but who cares/She walks like Rihanna"?
What does that even mean? Is it offensive to women? Is there some kind of code we're not clued into?
But the tongue-in-cheek music video for the single makes it all worthwhile: The femme fatale in the clip looks nothing like Rihanna (not even close) but we love the spoofing of classic boy-band videos from the 1990s.
We see the boys imitating the puppets-on-a-strings bit from 'N Sync's "Bye, Bye, Bye," the "I love you, girl" body talk from the Backstreet Boys' "I Want it That Way" and a black-and-white scene reminiscent of Take That's "Back For Good."
It's campy and silly fun, and reminds us of a time when boy bands were kings. God, was it that long ago?
