Plus: What's coming to and leaving Netflix in February?

  • When he’s not toiling on his family’s farm, emotionally stunted Johnny (Josh O’Connor) gets drunk in town and hooks up anonymously with other guys. But when his dad becomes sick, a Romanian farmhand stirs repressed desires in Francis Lee’s taut naturalistic romance. (VOD, Samuel Goldwyn)

  • Mudbound director Angela Robinson’s biopic (loosely) recounts Wonder Woman’s origins with Harvard psych professor William Marston (Luke Evans); his wife, Elizabeth (Rebecca Hall); and their research assistant/lover Olive Byrne (Bella Heathcote) serving as kinky midwives to one of the most famous comic-book characters of all time. (DVD, Sony)

  • British teen Charlie faces confusion and hatred after coming out at trans, including from her former soccer pals and members of the new girls’ team she joins. A touching, intimate drama. (DVD, Wolfe)

  • In this British import, Zoë Wanamaker, Miranda Richardson, and Downton Abbey’s Phyllis Logan play old friends who reunite after one’s husband dies suddenly. Gail (Wanamaker) also learns that her son is gay and raising children with his boyfriend and a lesbian couple. (January 29, Acorn TV)

  • The second season of the reimagined Norman Lear sitcom sees lesbian daughter Elena (Isabella Gomez) getting some family assistance in her quest for a girlfriend. (January 26, Netflix) (Netflix)
