These Drag Queens Are Kicking Cancer's Butt

Since 2012, cancer survivor Alan Bugg has been recruiting London's drag queens to help those battling cancer.

In 2010, Alan Bugg (above center) discovered an unusual lump in his lower left abdomen, and after many tests was diagnosed with Stage 4 Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

After rigorous treatment, Bugg gained full remission. However, two months after returning to work in 2011, the cancer was back again.

During the treatment period for his second diagnosis, Bugg decided that he wanted to support others who might be experiencing the ‘ups and downs’ of living with – and fighting – cancer, so he established a charity: Cancer Is A Drag.

Why drag? "Because I love drag, I love watching drag and being part of the big drag family – even though I'm not a performer myself," he tells LONDON CALLING.

Thankfully, Bugg was alone in his fight, thanks to a loyal group of friends and his aforementioned big drag family.

"I was doing some research, looking through the web, when I came across this picture of a dominatrix in thigh high boots standing with her legs crossed and it just went bing," says Glenn Webb, a longtime friend of Alan's, who designed the charity's logo.
