Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! A Third “Mamma Mia!” Movie Is in the Works

Featuring new ABBA songs?!

Here we go again!

Judy Craymer, the woman behind the stage and screen phenomenon Mamma Mia!, recently spoke with The Daily Mail about her dream of doing a third Mamma Mia!—and how she was supposed to be spending these past few months working on the third part of the epic movie trilogy.

“I was meant to have been getting on with that, in my head, during these months. But then I got hit with COVID fog,” Craymer told The Daily Mail. “I think one day there will be another film, because there’s meant to be a trilogy, you see. I know Universal would like me to do it.”

Considering Mamma Mia! and Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again made a combined $1 billion at the box office, we can see why Universal would be laying all of their love on a third installment.

Not only did Craymer tease plans for another movie, she also revealed how for the potential third film, she would like to use four new ABBA songs that Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus wrote for a virtual concert with their former bandmates Agnetha Faltskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad.

To say that the Mamma Mia! fans were excited about the idea of MM3 is an understatement:

Not to mention, there are so many possibilities for another movie! Exploring Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) now being a mother; the return of Cher; Meryl Streep obviously making another cameo; finally giving Colin Firth's character the gay love story he deserves...the opportunities are truly endless.

The news of a forthcoming movie comes just in time for Mamma Mia! Day, which is a few weeks away. Let's celebrate the good news by listening to Donna and the Dynamos on repeat today.
