This Company Made An Awesome Wonder Woman Jacket For Guys, And The Internet Was A Total Dick About It

"Being a hero is about courage, sacrifice and honor. Last time I checked, neither sex has a monopoly on those qualities."

With the Wonder Woman movie coming this summer, excitement for the amazing Amazon is at full tilt. Hero within, a company that specializes in cool clothing with comic-book flair, designed a denim jacket with Wonder Woman's iconic "WW" logo on the back—and used a male model to advertise it.

But when CEO Tony Kim shopped the jacket around, some uptight folk just couldn't handle it.

"I knew when I made the decision to design a Wonder Woman Jacket (and shirt) that it would be met with some resistance, since men have not been the traditional target market for Wonder Woman merchandise," Kim writes in a blogpost. "I have met with several companies to pitch this denim jacket for their consideration in carrying it. Their response has been almost all the same: "We LOVE the idea but afraid that guys won't support Wonder Woman. So we'll pass on it."

Comments on social media seem to reiterate this close-minded sentiment.

Kim credits George Perez's iconic run on Wonder Woman in the 1980s with teaching him it was okay for boys to embrace women as heroes.

"Being a hero is about courage, sacrifice and honor. Last time I checked, neither sex has a monopoly on those qualities."

A father of two girls, he works to make sure they get their fill of strong female role models.

"We watch the CW's Supergirl, read Ms. Marvel and we will surely go see Gal Gadot kick Nazis in the mouth in June,"Jim explains. "I want them to not just think it's okay for a women to lead, but to BELIEVE that they can inspire and challenge ANYONE. It's 2017 and it's ridiculous that men have a hang up about wearing a shirt with a non-sexualized woman on it—especially since the opposite has been expected for women fans for decades."

Still, Kim is taking the situation in stride, and says he doesn't blame the trolls on Instagram and Facebook: "I'm sure they are all good people, but no doubt [they are] shaped by the same experience I had my entire life."

And he has a simple reply to those who think a guy can't rock Wonder Woman swag: "It's okay, it's not for you."

As for me, I'm ordering two jackets. One for me, and one for my dad.

Hero Within's denim Wonder Woman jacket comes in sizes XS to 3XL and is expected to ship in mid-May. You can pre-order your jacket online now.
