This Lesbian Dance Anthem Dedicated To The First Dog In Space Is Everything Eurovision Is About

" A homeless shadow trapped in the cosmic computer/A little curly dog embraced by endless space"

Pop singer Agnete will represent Norway at the uber-campy Eurovision Song Contest next month with “Icebreaker,” which is about as edgy as a Dentice Ice commercial (and therefore a serious contender to win).

Agnete won the right to represent her homeland at Melodi Grand Prix late last month, but we had our hearts set on another contender, the lesbian performance troupe The Hungry Hearts, who performed “Laika” with vocalist Lisa Dillan.

The Hearts have the campiness Eurovision demands, plus the transgressive queer vibe you need to make those homophobic Eastern European nations squirm. Did we mention “Laika,” is a tribute to the first dog in space?

Formed in 2006, the Hungry Hearts refer to themselves as “an interdisciplinary project” producing music videos and short films with a strong visual aesthetic. Check out the official music video for “Laika.”

And the lyrics, should you find yourself needing them.

The streets of Moscow with my girlfriend
The streets of Moscow with my girlfriend
The streets of Moscow with my girlfriend

A lonely drumbeat out in space
Repeats a heartbeat forever lost
Floating like a dream in an empty room
A weightless Laika looking at the moon

A homeless shadow trapped in the cosmic computer
A little curly dog embraced by endless space
An echo of her life floating like a dream
Forever lost in the Sputnik Space Machine

She loves the disco, she loves the disco
She loves the disco flying through the air
She loves the disco, she loves the disco
She loves the disco flying through her hair

She could have been my love
She could have been my life

The streets of Moscow with my girlfriend
The streets of Moscow with my girlfriend

You could have closed my eyes
You could have told some lies

And then you left me here out in the atmosphere
Without the disco, without the disco

Hearts on fire
Burning with this sad desire

Der untergang ist jetzt, der untergang ist hier [The downfall is now, the downfall is here] My life is sadness, my life is madness

I love the disco, I love the disco
I love the disco flying through the air
I love the disco, I love the disco
I love the disco flying through my hair

She could have been my love
She could have been my life

The streets of Moscow with my girlfriend
The streets of Moscow with my girlfriend

Hearts on fire
Burning with this sad desire

Der untergang ist jetzt, der untergang ist hier
My life is sadness, My life is madness

I miss the disco, I miss the the disco
I miss the disco flying through the air
She loves the disco, she loves the disco
She loves the disco flying through her hair

The streets of Moscow with my girlfriend
The streets of Moscow with my girlfriend

The 2016 Eurovision Song Contest will be held May 10-May 14 in Stockholm.
