Tim Kaine Regrets Not Attacking Mike Pence On LGBT Issues During Debate

Clinton's running mate explains why he chose to keep the focus off Pence's homophobic past.

Tim Kaine has been criticized for not going after Mike Pence and his horrific anti-LGBT record at this week's vice presidential debate, and he addressed the issue during a CNN interview on Thursday.

At first, Kaine blamed the moderator's lack of LGBT-related questions on his failure to highlight Pence's homophobic views.

The VP-hopeful eventually agreed that he missed an opportunity to call his opponent out on his anti-LGBT history, but said he wanted to keep the focus on Clinton and Trump.

"I went in with the thought that, look, Hillary Clinton is the top of the ticket, and Donald Trump is the top of the ticket, and that’s where I’m going to focus," Kaine said. "That was my goal and I think we succeeded at doing it."
