Today In Gay: Critics Blast Benedict Cumberbatch's Gay Movie, Jinkx Monsoon Does "Hairspray," More

Star Trek Into Darkness - UK Film Premiere

Benedict Cumberbatch is starring in a new movie about WWII codebreaker Alan Turing, but critics claim producers are whitwashing Turin's homosexuality. The Imitation Game, which will co-star Keira Knightly, tells the story of Turing, a tragic figure who helped break the Nazi's codes in WWII, but was eventually disgraced and committed suicide after an arrest for gross indecency. Turing biographer Andrew Hodges is complaining screenwriter Graham Moore's script exaggerates Turing's affair with a woman and includes a fictional connection to a notorious spy. Of course the real shame will be if we don't get to see Cumberbatch shirtless!

Seattle just celebrated the tenth anniversary of Hairspray's Broadway debut with live concert series at the 5th Avenue Theatre. Joining the cast was Drag Race champion Jinkx Monsoon as the wicked Velma Von Tussle. Check out a photo montage above.

The new Mr. Gay USA has been crowned and its a man in uniform (actually, out of uniform):  Nevada Marine Matthew Simmons will now go on to represent United States in the international Mr. Gay World. Simmons, who posed in his uniform—as well as a revealing Speedo—has also done some all-male adult videos that he says he "regrets." The only regret we have is that we can't find them!

The Oxford English Dictionary has officially added the word "transphobic." Um, yay?

Apparently Japan thinks Two and a Half Men is about a gay couple. Yeah we could that.

Some 12,000 people attended Pride in Fribourg, Switzerland on Sunday, more than four times the expected number. The French-speaking city lies on the edge of a mostly German speaking Swiss area. The country recognizes same-sex partnerships and grants gay pairs most of the rights afforded heterosexual married couples. Protesters—including members of the reactionary Saint Pious X movement—were drowned out by catcalls from the marchers.

Blogger Mike Rogers may be getting ready to out a closeted anti-gay Republican congressman. Or maybe not.
