Today In Gay: Do You Have Chronic Homosexuality? Is Andre Leon Talley Straight?

A patient in California is all kinds of pissed off that his doctor diagnosed him with "chronic homosexual behavior” after a routine medical exam.

Matthew Moore went to the new doctor, whose name is being kept confidential, and her initial tests indicated he had high-blood pressure and high cholesterol. But when Moore took a peak at his chart, he saw the doctor scribbled down “homosexual behavior (302.0)”

The coding refers to a diagnosis that was famously removed by the American Psychiatry Association in 1973. “At first, I kind of laughed," he said. "And then as I thought about it and as I dealt with it, it angered me."

When he asked the doc what the hell she was thinking, she told him the issue was “still up to debate” and that being gay is “still being thought of as a disease."

She then recommended drilling a hole in his head and applying leeches for his B-12 deficiency.

Andre-Leon-TalleyWith his flowing robes, faux accent and appearances on America's Next Top Model, we just naturally assumed André Leon Talley was a homeaux. But as he told Numero Russia, he's all about the the shorties: Talley told editor Vanessa Grigoriadis that he has never been in love with a man—only two women: one a fellow student in Providence, the other a society woman with whom he fell in love after a night of dancing in Manhattan and whose name he declines to share because she later married and had children."

Talley did cop to having "gay experiences"—what, like seeing Halston's spring line in 1979?—he rejects labels and swears he's never slept with a designer : "Never, ever desired, never was asked, never was approached, never, ever bought, in my entire career. Never. Not one. Skinny or fat. Never."

Well, that would just be tacky.

The American Bar Association is considering a proposal to come out against the so called "gay-panic" defense, which homophobes have invoked to excuse hate crimes.

Being proposed at the ABA's annual convention in San Francisco next week,  Resolution 113A "urges governments to take legislative action to curtail the availability and effectiveness of the ’gay-panic’ and ’trans-panic’ defenses, which seek to partially or completely excuse crimes on the grounds that the victim’s sexual orientation or gender identity is to blame for the defendant’s violent reaction," the lawyers’ association’s website says.

"In every situation where there is a gay panic defense, it gives the lawyers facing that the power of the ABA to indicate we don’t believe this is a viable defense," ABA President Laurel Bellows said.

It's not clear how such a resolution would affect attorneys who actually want to use the defense.

Yesterday, global LGBT advocacy group All Out led a surprise visit to the home of Russian ambassador Vitaly Churkin, handing over a petition with more than 340,000 signatures calling for world leaders to help repeal Russia's anti-gay laws.

When activists gave Churkin a disk with the petition, he told them he should  go through proper channels.  also mansplained that  “We don’t have anti-gay laws. We have laws banning homosexual propaganda among minors.”

Joe-Scarborough-276x220Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough admits he dresses gay: Talking about reaction to President Obama's health care plans, Scarborough dismissed negative Twitter posts, saying they can't be used as an accurate bellwether.

Scarborough: If [a tweet] is positive I believe it; if it's negative, I don't. I always felt badly about myself on Twitter because people are so negative on both sides. On the 4th of July I tweeted positive quotes about America, from JFK to Ronald Reagan to George Washington to Carl Sandberg — and I was uniformly bashed by both sides. And I said, you know, if America fares that badly on Twitter, I'm okay.

Thomas Roberts: But Twitter loved your salmon pants. [Scarborough wore salmon-colored pants on The View]

Scarborough: They love my salmon pants. No doubt about that. I would call them "Nantucket Red" but I found out this past week from Joy Behar and Townhall that Nantucket Red is actually a gay color. I found that to be fascinating. And Townhall's big headline: "Joe Scarborough, colon, I like gay pants." So whatever. It's fascinating.

Roberts: I like gay pants too, Joe, so I'm with you.

Tee-hee Thomas Roberts made a funny.
