The movie poster for Kill Your Darlings, the long-awaited Beat poet movie starring Daniel Radcliffe and Dane DeHaan as gay lovers Allen Ginsberg and Lucien Carr, is out. The movie, which comes out October 18, sees the Beats in their early years trying to solve a murder mystery. We’ve seen set pics of Radcliffe and DeHann being all warm and fuzzy, but the poster looks rather ominous.
We can’t always get a read on Courtney Love—one minute she’s a hot mess, the next she’s a talented actress—but the lady knows her gays. Talking to Vanity Fair about her recent tour Love commented “It was a lot of gay guys and a lot of girls. Some women. I think the one straight man [in the audience] was a woman’s husband… I couldn’t quite tell. Without a single and without marketing, I’m not drawing on hetero males as a core audience. But thank God for the gays! My homos — they stick by me through thick and thin.”
In Courtney’s case, that’s quite literal.
We totally called it: Demi Lovato will play a prospective love interest for Santana (Naya Rivera) on the new
season of Glee.
Daniel Hernandez became a hero to millions when he stepped in to rescue Rep. Gabby Giffords (D-AZ) after she had been shot by an assailant in 2011. Hernandez was elected to the Sunnyside Unified School District school board the same year. Now Hernandez is facing a recall campaign, and someone’s throwing some seriously anti-gay shade his way. Right Wing Watch reported on flyers being handed outside schools that ask voters to “Put a REAL Man on the Sunnyside Board—Daniel Hernandez is LGBT. We need someone who will support Sports and cares about our kids. We don’t need someone who hates our values. RECALL Daniel Hernandez TODAY.” Another one insists Hernandez “cares about only one things [sic] taking your guns away.”
Louie Gonzalez, one of Hernandez’ opponents on the board, says he had nothing to do with the smear campaign—and went so far as to suggest Hernandez’s people did it to themselves. “He’s trying to turn this whole thing around… We’re not anti-gay or gun control by any means.”
American Apparel is looking for trans models for its new Transexy campaign. This could be great—or really, really bad.
It’s really time to put Pat Robertson out to pasture: The 700 Club host claimed today that gays in San Francisco wear special rings in order to cut people and infect them with AIDS when they shake hands. “You know what they do in San Francisco, some in the gay community there they want to get people,” Robertson explains. “If they got the stuff they’ll have a ring, you shake hands, and the ring’s got a little thing where you cut your finger. Really. It’s that kind of vicious stuff, which would be the equivalent of murder.”
Walmart is now extending benefits to same-sex partners, according to an internal memo obtained by Towleroad. Beginning January 1, 2014, the mega-retailer will offer medical, dental, vision and life insurance (and discount cards!) to all same- and opposite-sex domestic partners in its its 1.3 million-strong workforce in the U.S. Management says the decision was made to attract and keep the strongest talent, and to avoid confusion in a post-DOMA world. “By developing a single definition for all Walmart associates in the U.S. and Puerto Rico we are able to ensure consistency for associates in various markets,” the memo reads.
