Today In Gay: Sailor Proposes To Boyfriend, t.A.T.u Says Russian Gov't Full Of Gays

bildeWe're not the only one who loves a man in uniform: When sailor Jerrel Revels came ashore after six months aboard the USS New Mexico, he made a beeline for his boyfriend and proposed marriage.

Hundreds of people witnessed  Revels, a Navy Machinist's Mate, ask Dylan Kirchner to marry him—oh, and he said yes. “It kind of tickled my mind every now and then that [he'd propose] but I never expected this,” Kirchner said. “I didn’t really care everybody was around. It felt just like the two of us.”

Screen shot 2013-08-14 at 6.17.51 PMRemember that girl group t.A.T.u ? Y'know those faux-lesbian jailbait girls that sang "Not Gonna Get Us," and "All the Things She Said"? Funnily enough, "All the Things" came out ten years ago today—but if Lena Katina and Yulia Volkova indulged in the video's sapphic shenanigans now, they'd be tossed in the clink.

Katina, who (shock!) isn't actually gay, told The Daily Beast she and Volkova helped push their homeland toward inclusiveness, albeit at a glacial pace: "In Russia the situation with the LGBT [community] is still really tough. [But] I think we changed this a little bit." She says the new anti-gay laws are "weird" because so many higher-ups in the Kremlin are gay themselves.Closeted politicians making life horrible for gay people? Where have we heard that song before?

Media personality B. Scott has filed a discrimination suit against BET, claiming the network discriminated against him during the BET Awards in June. Scott, who identifies as both gay and within the trans spectrum, laid out the allegations on his website:

"After interviewing AJ Calloway for my first segment I was literally yanked backstage and told that my look from head to toe 'wasn’t acceptable.' They asked me to pull my hair back, they asked me to change my attire. Let’s be clear, I wasn’t wearing a ball gown and stiletto heels. I was wearing long pants, and a long shirt. I was returned to my trailer and forced to change into one of the other outfits while other producers waited outside. I changed quickly and returned to set, only to be told that I had been replaced by Adrienne Bailon and wouldn’t be going on at all."

Scott told The Washington Blade he's faced prejudice before, but, "what’s different about this case, or the situation, was that it happened before a live audience. It happened in front of all of my peers.”

In a statement BET claimed "the incident with B. Scott was a singular one with a series of unfortunate miscommunications from both parties. We regret any unintentional offense to B. Scott and anyone within the LGBT community and we seek to continue embracing all gender expressions.”

The Pentagon today confirmed that gay servicemembers will receive the same benefits as their heterosexual counterparts. It also confirmed that military members in states that don't allow same-sex marriage will be given up to 10 days' leave "so they can travel to one of the 13 states, plus the District of Columbia, that grant same-sex marriage licenses."

We're guessing Jerrel Revels and his fiance are happy to hear that.

A gay couple holding hands in Chelsea were beaten by a mob of six people. who shouted anti-gay slurs during the attack. The victims were treated for lacerations at a nearby hospital and released. This homophobic hate crime in lower Manhattan is just the latest in a list that's grown so so long we can't even remember how many there have been.

90-year-old Chinese grandma released the most amazing video supporting her gay grandson. Of course she also wants him to settled own already with a nice boy.
