Todd Haynes' Time-Hopping New Film Trailer Has Us "Wonderstruck"

The gay director's follow-up to "Carol" stars Julianne Moore and Michelle Williams.

Todd Haynes' knack for creating stunning visuals is on full display in a new teaser trailer for his upcoming film Wonderstruck, the gay director's all-ages follow-up to his acclaimed lesbian drama Carol.

Based on Brian Selznick’s 2011 novel of the same name, Wonderstruck made its world premiere earlier this year at the Cannes Film Festival.

According to an official synopsis, the film is about "children from two different eras who secretly wish their lives were different. Ben longs for the father he has never known, while Rose dreams of a mysterious actress whose life she chronicles in a scrapbook. When Ben discovers a puzzling clue in his home and Rose reads an enticing headline in the newspaper, both children set out on quests to find what they are missing that unfold with mesmerizing symmetry."

Backed by David Bowie's "Space Oddity," the trailer shows young stars Oakes Fegley and Millicent Simmonds as the kids, who are both enthralled by the American Museum of Natural History in the 1920s and 1970s. The film, which also features Michelle Williams and Cory Michael Smith, reunites Haynes with his Far From Heaven muse, Julianne Moore.

Wonderstruck opens October 20 in theaters.
