Todd Herzog, Gay "Survivor" Winner, Battles Life-Threatening Alcoholism, Turns To Dr. Phil: WATCH

Todd Herzog became Survivor's second openly gay champion  when he won Survivor China back in 2007. But the 28-year-old Utah Mormon is struggling with alcoholism—to the point where friends and family worry he might die. Later this month, Herzog will appear on Dr. Phil, where the talk-show host tries to bring him back toward sobriety.

"I've never talked to a guest that's closer to death than this one," Phil recounts after a clearly drunk Herzog reveals he drank an entire bottle of vodka before coming on the show. In the trailer below, Herzog can be seen crawling around on the floor and being propped up by several people. (The exact date and time of Herzog's appearance hasn't been revealed.)

A flight attendant before winning the show's million-dollar jackpot, Herzog previously dated Survivor: Tocantins contestant Spencer Duhm.

While Survivor has been very inclusive, the show led to great results for its queer winners: Season 1 champion Richard Hatch was sent to jail for tax evasion.
