Meet the Logo30: Todd Masterson

Everyone's favorite @GayFatFriend on the future of Pride.

Every day during the month of June, we will be spotlighting our 2020 Logo30. This powerful series profiles ordinary and extraordinary people who show pride in unique and provocative ways. Visit the Logo30 homepage to view current and past honorees.

Comedian Todd Masterson wants to be everyone's @GayFatFriend.

The Los Angeles-based television writer and veteran stand-up comic has made a name for himself on Instagram, where he parodies the lack of body diversity in #Instagay culture by Photoshopping his own "beautiful fat body" into photos and videos from hunky gay men.

His clever account is equal parts hilarious and eye-opening. As Masterson told NewNowNext last year, creating content for the @GayFatFriend page has been revelatory for him, too: "It made me realize that when it comes to attraction and sexuality, there’s a lid for every trash can. My body is hot to a lot of people. Just because I’m maybe not attracted to my body doesn’t mean there aren’t a ton of people that are."

Asked by Logo and NewNowNext about what he wants to see from another 50 years of Pride festivities amid the COVID-19 crisis and ongoing protests for Black lives, Masterson was hopeful: "Pride has survived for so long through so many things! We're gonna get through this. It's going to be fine."

"Black lives matter," he added. "Black trans lives matter."
