Out Olympic diver Tom Daley is facing backlash on social media after posing for an ad campaign to benefit Sea World, the American theme park that was exposed as a horrifying sea mammal internment camp in the 2013 documentary Blackfish.

For the photoshoot, Daley posed completely nude (side note: omg, we're dead) to have a shark painted on the side of his body. The 21-year-old diver was apparently creating the illusion of a shark in order to raise awareness for shark preservation.

"I’ve always been really fascinated by sharks. They’re incredible marine animals, but not always in the news for the right reasons," Daley said via press release. "Sharks play a vital role to the health of the ocean. They keep fish populations balanced and protect habitats. Without sharks, the health of the ocean ecosystem would completely change."

Nude portraits of Tom Daley are obviously always welcome, but Sea World's involvement has tainted the campaign's alleged good intentions. Critics on Twitter sounded off appropriately:

Over the years, Sea World has been mum about their role in capturing and imprisoning orcas to be held inhumanely in tanks a severe fraction of the size they require. This case is no different.

Speaking about the campaign, Mike Price, assistant curator of fishes at SeaWorld, ironically added, "The more you know about any species, the more you will want to protect it."
