Tom Lenk Hopes To Show Off A Rocking Bod And His Inner Beyoncé On Broadway

"Rock of Ages" will welcome the "Buffy" alum.

Out Buffy fave Tom Lenk has his next big gig lined up. He'll be making his Broadway debut as part of Rock of Ages, the jukebox musical featuring music from the likes of Pat Benatar, Journey, and Twisted Sister.

Lenk landed the supporting role of Franz, the son of a German developer hoping to turn a Los Angeles club into something that will give the city a more family-friendly image, which prompts club regulars to perform "We're Not Gonna Take It." Lenk actually originated the role, playing the part in pre-Broadway productions in L.A. and Las Vegas and it's great to see him getting the part again.

However, having played Franz before doesn't mean Lenk will have an easy time between now and his Broadway debut on September 14. For one thing, the role has become more complicated since Lenk last played Franz.

"I’m a little nervous," he says. "The way I performed it in L.A. and Vegas is not nearly as exhaustive as the version that’s happening now on stage. I would stand and sing, and then do some dancing. But now it’s dancing while I’m singing, so I have two weeks to become Beyoncé."

Hopefully, the buffer Lenk of the near-future won't lose any of his adorkable quality.

There's also the matter of the sparkly unitard Franz reveals when he sings "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" in a character-changing moment. When Lenk went to check out the current production of Rock of Ages, he was surprised at how good the current Franz looked after ripping off his more conservative clothes.

Said Lenk, "I was like, Ohmygod, you can be funny and arousing? If I’m gonna take my clothes off every day on stage for six months on Broadway, I might as well get a date out of it. So I’m gonna try to get some biceps and pectoral muscles by Sept. 14.”

However, the Broadway stage isn't the only place you'll be able to find Lenk. He promises he'll also do solo shows, like the one where he reads the comments to an old article called "Your Next Crush: Tom Lenk." In the meantime, we'll be trying to figure out when he finds time to sleep.
