Tony Awards 5 Best Moments: Video

The Tony Awards have never been known for being an interesting, or even at times bearable, show, but last night was pretty entertaining. From some shocking upsets to some actual A-list attendees, here are the five moments we enjoyed the most.

Neil Patrick Harris, Patti Lupone, Amanda Seyfried and Jesse Tyler Ferguson Opening Number
Everyone, and we mean everyone, seemed to be in this opening number. Check them all out above. Sadly the opening bits featuring the Book of Mormon cast stopping by the dressing rooms of Ricky Martin, Cynthia Nixon and Judith Light aren’t in the above video.

Audra McDonald Wins Best Actress in a Musical For Porgy and Bess
Sure, everyone knew Audra would be picking up her fifth Tony win last night, and first as a leading lady, for her stunning work as Bess in Ira Gershwin’s classic opera musical musical opera. What they didn’t know was how beautiful and perfect her speech would be, including a touching tribute to her daughter at the end. Watch it above.

Crowd Surfing
Head to 1:45 on the video above and watch in disbelief as a lady, in a gown, crowd surfs to her seat behind an unknowing Neil Patrick Harris.

Nina Arianda Wins Best Actress in a Play for Venus in Fur
If there was one person we were rooting for here it was the young Arianda, whose amazing turn as Vanda in Fur was the best thing we saw two years ago at the Classic Stage Company and then again this season on Broadway.  And while her acting may be flawless, her acceptance speeches look to be legendary. She managed to be funny, hit on Christopher Plummer and end on a heartfelt note while calling off the orchestra. We can’t wait to see this lady win another award.

Judith Light wins best Featured Actress in a Play for Other Desert Cities
Fu*k yeah Angela Bower.
