An ad announcing Singapore's annual Pink Dot festival for the LGBT community tugs at the heartstrings and commands viewers to focus on the progress Singaporean LGBTs and their families have made, not the government's setbacks.

Singapore still has a long way to go with LGBT equality — just this year, the High Court upheld a decision that criminalizes sex between men. "We're aware that there are many people in the community who have given up," Pink Dot spokesman Paerin Choa told reporters this month. "We want to remind everybody that we are a resilient bunch."

"I support the freedom to love because I believe in love," a woman announces to a crowd in the video below. "Too many of my gay friends have left these shores because of intolerance. Let's make a change today. In the words of the great Mahatma Gandhi, 'Be the change you want to see in the world!'"

Now in its sixth year, the Pink Dot festival will feature a parade, a rally, musical performances and other activities at Hong Lim Park on June 13.
