Trans Actress Daniela Vega, Star Of "A Fantastic Woman," Presenting At Oscars

For the first time, the Academy Awards will include an openly transgender presenter, actress Daniela Vega, star of the Oscar-nominated A Fantastic Woman.

The 28-year-old Chilean actress has been widely acclaimed for her performance in Woman, nominated for Best Foreign-Language Film. Directed by Sebastián Lelio, the film sees her as a trans woman grappling with the death of her older lover.

“Whether returning to the Oscars stage, or gracing it for the first time, each of these artists bring their own distinguishing and energetic appeal,” producers Michael De Luca and Jennifer Todd said in a statement. “Their contributions will make for an unforgettable evening.”
