Trans Actress Thanks Producers For Letting Her Audition For "Hamilton"

"This makes me so happy to know they are aware of the Transgender community."

Hamilton seems to be the only show on every theater-lover's lips these days, and the musical is now scoring even more points with fans by continuing to prove how inclusive it is.

Transgender actress M.J. Rodriguez was recently invited to audition for the role of Peggy Schuyler in the Broadway hit, and took to her Facebook page to thank the casting directors at Telsey + Company for the opportunity.

"This makes me so happy to know they are aware of the Transgender community," she wrote. "To me, a callback or booking wasn't my goal, my goal was to just be seen as the woman I have become, as well as show I can do the work."

Rodriquez previously portrayed Angel in the Off-Broadway run of RENT, which won her a 2011 Clive Barnes Award, and now she's ready to break new ground in Hamilton.

"I know for sure I'm determined to play Peggy and it will be soon," she added. "I'm speaking that into existence."
