Filipino model Geena Rocero has joined CoverGirl cosmetics' #GirlsCan campaign, which aims to encourage young women to achieve their goals.

An accompanying video series features newswoman Soledad O'Brien interviewing accomplished women about their journey to success.

“Media shapes culture. So when media starts telling empowered and dignified experiences of being LGBT, it would make such a difference to a person who is watching that. And that is the power of media,” Rocero tells O'Brien in the clip below.

Rocero, who works with the nonprofit Gender Proud, is working to address transgender rights in her native Philippines, where trans men and women are not not legally recognized as the gender they identify with.
