This Trans Teen Captured Her First Time Appearing As A Woman—At Prom!

"I said 'prom night is the last event I am ever going to have in my teenage years,'" says Juana Sosa. "'So let’s do it right.'"

Senior prom is an important rite of passage for many teens. If you’re a trans teenager, and it’s your first time appearing in public as a girl, it can take on a lot more meaning.

Luckily for Juana Sosa, a trans teen from Argentina, her big night out went fabulously—as she documented on Instagram and YouTube.

“I wanted to share with all of you my first appearance and experience as a woman,” Sosa, an aspiring photographer and model, wrote on her YouTube post. “I hope to inspire other people to show who they really are without fear.”

Sosa recorded everything from her mom bringing home her outfit—which was inspired by trans supermodel Andreja Pejic—to her dad taking her to her hair-and-makeup appointment.

Although she had a supportive group of friends, Sosa felt she missed out on a big part of her adolescence. When she started growing facial hair and didn’t look like the rest of her pubescent girlfriends, she felt like she couldn’t participate.

“So I said, ‘Prom night is the last event I am ever going to have in my teenage years, let’s do it right,'” she told Queer Voices blog.

“I thought ‘I have never seen a get-ready-with-me [prom video] of a trans person, so let’s do it,’ and that is how my video was born.”
