Trans Woman Announces Tour Of Men's Rooms In North Carolina

"They are trying to create a situation where trans people are invisible."

One transgender woman is making a statement against North Carolina's anti-LGBT House Bill 2 by undertaking a statewide tour of men's restrooms.

Shakina Nayfack, a New York-based trans actress and writer, who made waves with her KickStartHer campaign to crowd fund her gender confirmation surgery, announced the plan via Twitter last month.

Nayfack plans to demonstrate the ridiculousness of HB 2, which forces trans individuals to use the restrooms that align with the gender they were assigned at birth, by taking selfies in several bathrooms across the state and tweeting about her experiences along the way in what she's calling her #ManifestPussy Tour.

“They are trying to create a situation where trans people are supposed to be invisible. This is an absurd, panicked reaction from the ignorant, it’s a massive step backwards, so I felt it was my duty to go down there and take selfies in as many men’s bathrooms as possible,” she said to The Guardian.

Nayfack originally joked about the idea of the tour on social media, but was surprised when users started to take it seriously.

"When I heard about HB2 I posted that I wanted to go down there and piss in all the ‘wrong’ restrooms and someone posted ‘I would totally crowdfund that’, so the next day I launched the new campaign.”

The campaign will see Nayfack travelling to bathrooms in Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Greensboro, Asheville, Flat Rock, Charlotte and Fayetteville. Aside from visiting the bathrooms, she'll also be performing shows at various venues throughout the state.

“HB2 is ridiculous, it means trans people either have to go in places where we risk being subject to violence, or at least making people uncomfortable” she said. “Depending on what the legislature does, it will either be a demonstration or a celebration tour.”

With her statuesque frame and bright blonde hair, Nayfack is set to make quite an impression on any bathroom user she runs into.

“If people want to come at me,” she said, “I’ll tell them, well, they could suck my dick, but I cut it off.”
