Woman Slain In Chicago Becomes Fourth Transgender Person Murdered In America This Year

Rest in peace, Keke Collier.

A 24-year-old trans woman of color was shot and killed in Chicago on Tuesday, marking the fourth reported homicide of a transgender woman so far this year.

Keke Collier, who friends say also went by the name Tiara Richmond, was reportedly seen by witnesses getting into a car with the man they say eventually shot her, and was later found in the street with wounds to her chest, arm and hand.

The victim, who was originally misgendered in early reporting of the story, was later pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Hospital.

Although there is speculation about the murder from friends and witnesses on Facebook, police said they are still investigating the circumstances of her death.

A group of Collier’s friends held a candlelight vigil in her honor on Wednesday night, including Jaliyah Mimi Nowak, who posted a Facebook Live video from the event.
