TSA Humiliates Transgender Navy SEAL With Public Pat Down, Disregard For Legal Gender

Kristin Beck said she had to hold back tears as other travelers watched.

Kristin Beck, the ex-Navy SEAL and SEAL Team 6 member whose transition was profiled by CNN in 2014, has received an apology from the TSA following a "humiliating" experience.

Beck told CNN she was going through airport security at Washington, D.C.'s Reagan National Airport on Tuesday when a TSA supervisor purposely misgendered her several times before ordering a male officer to pat her down in front of everyone.

"These are my real boobs, he's not going to pat me down," Beck recalled telling the supervisor, who repeatedly directed the male officer to "pat him down" even after she identified herself as female and provided him with a driver's license that does as well.

"This is wrong. I'm a female, it says female on my Maryland driver's license. This is the real me," she said.

"I'm sad, for TSA, our country, our future... Why is this so difficult?" she added in a post on Facebook.

"I'm a real human with real feelings."

Beck, who also ran for Congress in 2015, said the "kicker" of the whole situation is the fact that she was traveling to Kansas City to deliver a speech on human rights to the Department of Justice Bureau of Prisons.

In a formal apology to Beck, TSA spokesman Bruce Anderson invited her to work with the organization "to improve training and protocols" for transgender people at TSA screenings.

"We are committed to ensuring that all travelers are treated with respect and courtesy," he said.
