TV on Tap: “Community” Named a Fan Favorite, “Doctor Who” Plans a Summer Break and “The Walking Dead” Closes Big

Goodbye Teddy, tonight brings Trevor Donovan’s last 90210.

Further confirming that Community is the new Chuck, the cult-fave comedy has won TV Guide’s Fan Favorite Cover Contest. Now, the Community fans have to figure out how to convince a sponsor to save the show, like how Chuck fans got Subway to intervene and help the geek dramedy get its third season.

There’s a bleak summer ahead for Doctor Who fans as the next season won’t begin until the fall. I guess that means we’re going to need to find time to work The Doctor into our schedules along with all those new fall shows.

Parks & Recreation is bringing Louis C.K. back to Pawnee for an episode that will air early next year. It should be interesting to see his character, who briefly dated Leslie before moving to San Diego, meet Ben, Leslie’s most recent squeeze.

Regis Philbin is already working on his next TV venture, saying he’s developing a talent show for primetime that would involve performing families. If that show does air, I hope Dr. Funke’s 100 Percent Natural Good Time Family Band Solution show up for the auditions.

Bethenny Frankel’s talk show looked doomed after its various competitors snatched up the TV stations in major markets and now it’s official, the syndication company has pulled the plug on the project after having trouble selling the show.

In what sounds to me like an act of marketing desperation, you will soon be able to buy reams of Dundler-Mifflin paper, branded to match The Office’s paper company.

Yesterday was a big day of channels announcing some of the premiere dates coming in January. First comes Pretty Little Liars and The Lying Game which return to ABC Family’s schedule on January 2. The Tim Gunn co-hosted talk show, The Revolution will debut on January 16, the Monday after One Life to Live signs off. Finally, FX will kick off a new season of Justified on January 17 and Archer on January 19.

In ratings news, the mid-season finale of The Walking Dead drew a bigger audience than first season’s finale, a sign that the zombie drama continues to be a strong draw.

And from the department of “This is why we can’t have nice things,” the season premiere of Kourtney & Kim Take New York hit a series high in the ratings and ranks as one of the top ten broadcasts on E!, thanks to interest in seeing Kim’s fake marriage fall apart.

Live! with Kelly (syndicated) Check local listings
Neil Patrick Harris’ week of guest-hosting continues with visits from Betty White and Molly Sims along with a performance by Cobra Starship. After seeing that brief video of Kelly in the kitchen with David Burtka yesterday, I have to wonder if we’ll be able to see him in the guest-host’s chair anytime soon.

The Wendy Williams Show (syndicated) Check local listings
Cyndi Lauper’s giving Wendy a visit today. She’s got a fundraiser for the True Colors Fund coming up, but I hope she’ll mention her upcoming appearance on Graham Norton’s panel show Would You Rather? As you expect, she’s hilarious on the show.

90210 (CW) 8:00 PM ET
Janice Dickinson makes an appearance as Naomi tries to plan a fashion show (talk about people who deserve each other) but more importantly Teddy makes a big decision. Sadly, since this is the last of Trevor Donovan’s guest appearances, Teddy’s choice shouldn’t be hard to predict.

New Girl (Fox) 9:00 PM ET
Jess works to suppress her jealousy when Winston joins her handball quartet and turns out to be great at the game. I’m keeping my fingers crossed this is the episode where New Girl’s writers finally find Winston’s personality.

Ringer (CW) 9:00 PM ET
It’s a Buffy reunion as Amber Benson shows up in tonight’s mid-season finale as Agent Machado continues to look into Bridget’s past and Henry realizes he has to turn to Bridget for help in finding Gemma again.

Raising Hope (Fox) 9:30 PM ET
The Chance family hopes to strike it big when the National Invention Convention Extravaganza comes to town and the neighborhood gets competitive over their inventions’ chances. This looks like a pretty packed episode with appearances by Ethan Suplee, Andrew “Dice” Clay and Patton Oswalt.

Sanctuary (Syfy) 10:00 PM ET
In a special Tuesday episode (don’t worry, it’s back on Friday next week), Adam Worth shows up in a virtual Sanctuary where he has some words for Magnus and Tesla.
