FX Checks In To "American Horror Story: Hotel" And "Arrow" Gets Ready For Its First Gay Hero: TV ON TAP

The new season has Lady Gaga, Naomi Campbel and Matt Bomer, oh my!

News

ABC Family is changing its name to Freeform as millennials start to age out of the channel's young-skewing target demographic. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean an end to the channel's frequent airings of The 700 Club. We will continue to enjoy the idea of The Fosters and Pretty Little Liars being Pat Robertson's lead-in, though.

Fx hasn't ordered a sixth season of American Horror Story but:

Wanda Sykes is joining the cast of Black-ish as a woman who gains control of the firm where Dre works in a divorce settlement. That sounds like a premise with plenty of promise.

TVLine reports that Peter Sarsgaard will appear in a recurring role on the upcoming Twin Peaks revival. As usual, there's no word on who Sarsgaard will play and, as TVLine notes, Kyle MacLachlan is still the only original castmember confirmed for the revival.

Yesterday, we learned that CBS is developing a Nancy Drew series featuring a grown-up version of the teen sleuth. Now, the network has added a series about a young Miss Marple, turning the Agatha Christie-created elderly busybody into a woman who inherits a bookstore in a California town.

Netflix's upcoming Fuller House has cast Camp and Dallas hunk Juan Pabilo Di Pace as Kimmy's ex-husband, who is trying to win her back.

Casual (Hulu) streaming

Hulu gets into the cringe comedy business with this dysfunctional romance comedy, with Michela Watkins playing Valerie, a woman going through a divorce in her late 30s and getting back into the dating pool. She's living with her brother Alex (Tommy Dewey), a tech tycoon manchild who created a successful dating website and her teen daughter Laura. (Dewey hits all the right notes to make his character work.) She's trying to figure out what kind of relationship she wants (including the possibility of something Casual, see what they did there?) while her happily single brother gives her advice, and her daughter tries to figure it out for the first time.

Nature (PBS) Check local listings

In the latest David Attenborough-narrated documentary, Nature looks at flightless birds — including the ostrich, the cassowary and the kiwi — with an eye on how they've evolved to make up for the lack of flight.

Nova (PBS) Check local listings

Starting with the discovery of an ancient clay tablet in Iraq calling for a virtuous man to build a boat that can survive a major flood, Nova examines stories of major floods, looking for the source for the Biblical story of Noah and his ark.

Arrow (CW) 8:00 PM ET

I'm in the definite minority, but I was happy with last season's Olicity ending. Then again, I'm for Felicity getting whatever she wants. Chances are good her domestic bliss is about to end as Star City finds itself needing the Arrow once again thanks to a threat from Damien Darhk. On the other hand, at some point this season Felicity's getting her own gay pal, one who will take on a superhero identity of Mister Terrific.

Empire (Fox) 9:00 PM ET

So maybe this will be the episode with all the gay stuff that 50 Cent says is chasing away viewers? I mean, if Lucious is back to recruting acts for Empire, Jamal has time to make Michael more than eye candy for the backdrop of his interviews, right?

Modern Family (ABC) 9:00 PM ET

Mitch finally gets the big gig he's been seeking, except he's back to lying to his father and dealing with closets — since his new employer is Jay's business rival Closets, Closets, Closets, Closets! Meanwhile, Phil and Claire fill the empty spot in their nest by letting Dylan move in.

Supernatural (CW) 9:00 PM ET

After several seasons of subsisting on baiting shippers and finding different stories where one Winchester brother is mad at the other one for some secret plot hatched out of pure brotherly love, I finally burned out of Supernatural last season. Still, the CW's longest-running scripted drama kicks off its 11th season right from the cliffhanger, where a great evil was unleashed. (That sounds familiar.) For those of you with far more endurance than me, set your DVR.

The Carbonaro Effect (TruTV) 10:00 PM ET

It's back to the mall for another creepy crawly stunt, this one involves a massaging pillow and snakes. Those snakes might not create as much panic as when his ring cleaning product turns a woman's engagement ring into liquid.

Nashville (ABC) 10:00 PM ET

Following Beverly's second aneurysm, Deacon and Scarlett debate if they want to keep her alove on life support, while Avery goes back to deciding if he can handle the rollercoaster ride of being married to Juliette.

American Horror Story (FX) 10:00 PM ET

It's finally here, the latest American Horror Story season, adding Lady Gaga, Naomi Campbell, Max Greenfield and Cheyenne Jackson to the repertory company while Matt Bomer takes a bigger role than his Freak Show debut. The promos for this season looked like Ryan Murphy decided to turn Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" music video into a miniseries, let's hope it's that good.
