TV on Tap: NBC Plans to Turn Dolly Parton Songs into TV Movies, Zachary Levi Joins "Heroes" Revival and "American Horror Story" Plans Big Reinvention

News

In talking with the TCA, NBC announced that they're planning on making programs that take inspiration from Dolly Parton. The plan is to make "uplifting" movies based on Parton's songs and her life that hope to capture the country music icon's optimistic outlook.

Zachary Levi has joined the cast of the upcoming Heroes revival, Heroes Reborn. Levi is great but it's going to take a lot more to get me to come back to Heroes.

NBC has ordered a comedy series starring and produced by Eva Longoria set behind-the-scenes at a telenovela. The series is rather simply titled Telenovela.

The BBC Three twitter feed would like to remind you that there are several ways to complain about the cancellation of In the Flesh.

Fox says it has plans to fix Sleepy Hollow — by making things less serialized. Er, serialization isn't really the problem.

What Sleepy Hollow needs more is anachronistic Ichabod silliness.

Equally worrisome, Fox seems to be expressing that they're out of ideas as they want to revive The X-Files with Scully and Mulder returning, along with a new Keifer Sutherland-less season of 24.

Fox also announced the cast for Ryan Murphy's upcoming horror-comedy series Scream Queens. It will includes Abigail Breslin in her first TV series role, Lea Michelle, Joe Manganiello with a recurring role for Ariana Grande.

There was also discussion about Murphy's original horror anthology, American Horror Story. FX boss John Landgraf teased that the next season will be "radically, radically reinvented" but held back from revealing the theme of the next season or if Jessica Lange would return.

You can cancel your plans to marathon your favorite BBC show before it disappears from Netflix. The rights for most of those series has been extended, though Fawlty Towers, Blackadder, MI-5 and Red Dwarf will still expire on February 1.

Friday, NBC moved Constantine to an earlier time slot hoping it would improve ratings. Instead, ratings dropped 20%, making cancellation seem much more likely.

For twelve hours, public figures like Selma director Ava DuVernay, David Oyelowo, Common, Pete Wentz and Rep. John Lewis will weigh in on race in segment airing during the commercial breaks, all part of an effort to encourage people to dare to have difficult conversations (to have #TheTalk) about race.

Paul learns "something surprising" about Will today, maybe that's a realization that he managed to have sex with his ex's husband? He should have taken advantage of those hungry stares from the bellboy.

Independent Lens (PBS) Check local listings

The Fosters (ABC Family) 8:00 PM ET

Sure the season finale of The Fosters had a bunch of cliffhangers to pick up. Robert was driven away in an ambulance just after Sophia ripped up the papers that would finally let Callie be adopted. Lena quit her job in what feels like the latest poor decision in a midlife crisis. However, for viewers following Jude's coming-of-age story the big question is the secret Colin and Jude are keeping. What did they do together on that camping trip?

Gotham (Fox) 8:00 PM ET

So far Jim's just started his exile assignment at Arkham and there's an inmate with a fixation with electricity on the loose. As someone who believes in the system, Jim thinks he can prove that he should get his old job back by capturing the escapee. Jim has way too much faith in the system.

The Originals (CW) 8:00 PM ET

With Vincent seeking revenge (but not the elaborate Emily Thorne kind of revenge) Klaus is back to hiding Cami and Hayley. Hayley, meanwhile, hopes she and Jackson are getting a few steps closer to negotiating a truce between the vampires and werewolves.

Chasing Life (ABC Family) 9:00 PM ET

After four months in treatment, April's headed back to work with a remission diagnosis. Now, she just has to deal with a new boss who doesn't know her from one of the unpaid interns.

Jane the Virgin (CW) 9:00 PM ET

After that murderous cliffhanger, Jane is finally back to deal with the consequences of Alba's "accident" down the stairs — which is largely about how the men in the Villanueva women's lives respond. Also, a hurricane hits Miami. When the eye passes, it'll be the calmest Miami has been since Jane had her first fateful visit to the gynecologist.

Sleepy Hollow (Fox) 9:00 PM ET

Sure, the second season of Sleepy Hollow has left behind a lot of the qualities that made the first season so compelling, but at least it's remembered to keep delivering crazy historical revisionism, like tonight's guest appearance by Michelle Trachtenberg as Abigail Adams.

Eye candy (MTV) 10:00 PM ET

Lindy starts her search for the killer by arranging dates-slash- with two guys-slash-suspects.

Castle (ABC) 10:00 PM ET

If the return of Jane the Virgin isn't enough telenovela tropes for you, Castle has you covered as Castle is asked to help solve the murder of an actress. The guest cast includes One Life to Live alum Kamar De Los Reyes.

The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore (Comedy Central) 11:30 PM ET

The latest Daily Show turns to "Senior Black Correspondent" Larry Wilmore for a panel talk show that promises to mix Daily Show-style satire, with some smart discussion (not the kind you'd see on CNN, we hope) and previously-undiscovered comedy voices. It's got big shoes to fill, let's hope it can come close to filling that Stephen Colbert-shaped void left in hour hearts. To kich things off, the inaugural panel will feature Senator Cory Booker, Talib Kweli and Bill Burr.
