“Burn Notice” Bids Adieu, John Oliver Returns to “Community” and AMC Calls for Saul for a “Breaking Bad” Spin-Off

AMC has decided it Better Call Saul for help after losing one of its signature series. AMC has reached a deal for the long-discussed Breaking Bad prequel focusing on the life of Saul Goodman before he met Walter White. According to Deadline, a series is set to be ordered as soon as deals can be finalized with Bob Odenkirk (who plays Saul) and spin-off co-creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould (who wrote the episode that introduced Saul).

Bob Odenkirk and Bryan Cranston in "Breaking Bad"If this prequel is still set in ABQ, then from my perspective it’s all good, man.

For those of you who miss The Nine Lives of Chloe King, the series may not be getting a follow-up movie but you will be able to buy the script for that movie, as reported by TV Guide.

What was the “rules violation” in this week’s Face Off?

It’s been a while since John Oliver has appeared on Community but The Hollywood Reporter says that the Daily Show guest-host will be appearing in a multi-episode arc.

TVLine reports that The Tomorrow People has cast Popular alum Carly Pope as a woman who has managed to conceal her abilities until recently.

Former Happy Endings producer Jonathan Groff (no, a different one) is continuing to work with Casey Wilson. ABC has ordered a pilot from Groff, Wilson and Wilson’s creative partner June Diane Raphael called DINKS following a couple in their 30s with no kids. (DINK meaning Double Income, No Kids.)

E! has a scripted drama pilot in the works. The Royals follows a fictional royal family, with The Chronicles of Narnia’s William Moseley as a prince thrust into the limelight after his older brother’s death.

In case you missed it, a “Worst Twerk Ever” video went viral, got heavily featured on web sites and even airplay on many mainstream news shows. This week, Jimmy Kimmel revealed the video was fake on his late night show. The Tampa Bay TimesEric Deggans wonders if the prank is the “best media criticism ever” for showing how willing the media is to cover an online video without bothering to make sure it’s real.

Fox’s upcoming comedy Enlisted is going to feature a Kid ’n Play reunion. They’ll play themselves performing for the troops at Enlisted’s army base.

It’s funny to think of The Fugitive as changing TV for having a marginally imperfect protagonist (just having his innocence in question gave networks pause), having a villainous law man and for depicting a convicted man as being potentially innocent. That is a positively strange thing to ponder in the age of TV ruled by The Sopranos’ influence.

Katey Sagal in "Sons of Anarchy"Katey Sagal remains my primary temptation to check out Sons of Anarchy.

Once again, the season premiere of Sons of Anarchy set a set a series high in the ratings and may end up being FX’s most-watched single episode.

Burn Notice (USA) 9:00 PM ET
For the run of Burn Notice, Michael has been forced to choose between his motley crew of operatives and his career as a spy, so it only makes sense that the series’ final episode would see Michael face that choice with even bigger stakes. However, at this point, Michael has damaged his relationships with Sam, Jesse and Fiona pretty badly, forcing him to prove he’s worthy of their trust.

Bruce Campbell and Coby Bell in "Burn Notice"“Fine, I guess this wasn’t the best place to break out into our ’Who Needs the Kwik-E-Mart?’ routine.”

Big Brother (CBS) 9:00 PM ET
At this point, the “I’m-just-saying-Hiter-was-a-great-speaker” guy is still in the house, but so is Andy and since he’s Head of Household, that means he’s matched (and could even beat) Kevin’s top three record for best performance by a gay U.S. Big Brother competitor. Does he have a chance at being the first gay winner? (The UK version of Big Brother had a gay winner over a decade ago in case you were wondering.)

Project Runway (Lifetime) 9:00 PM ET
The designers are challenged to create something for the modern Southern woman. I’ll be watching to see who takes inspiration from Scarlett O’Hara and uses curtain fabric for their design.

Watch What Happens Live (Bravo) 11:00 PM ET
It’s another musical episode as Andy talks with Sean Kingston and Gloria Estefan.

Totally Biased for having gay people to comment on gay topics.

When I saw that Sarah Silverman was scheduled on tonight’s show, I originally didn’t think of including it in the listings, but then I remembered Guy Branum’s takedown of the gay jokes by Silverman and other comics in the Roast of James Franco and realized this could be very interesting. Or they could pretend it never happened, save for Silverman staring daggers at Branum from a distance.

Childrens Hospital (Adult Swim) Midnight ET
Owen new hairstyle brings work to a halt . No really. I guess this is why we don’t see those Grey’s Anatomy doctors trying out a new style every now and then.

NTSF: SD: SUV:: (Adult Swim) 12:15 AM ET
When an escaped prisoner turns out to be too much for the NTSF team, they revive an old NTSF agent to help put him back in prison. Is that NTSF’s take on Demolition Man? That sounds like NTSF’s take on Demolition Man.

Lyle Masaki is a fan of obscure superheroes, video games, adorkable guys and that show you loved that got cancelled way too soon.
