TV on Tap: "Drop Dead Diva" Gets Trevor Donovan and "Doctor Who" Reveals Twelve

News

The magnificent Trevor Donovan has been cast for a guest role on Drop Dead Diva, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Apparently his role involves dropping his pants in the courtroom, which is always a good idea for Donovan's characters.

Trevor Donovan

Fox president Kevin Reilly said that he sees Glee ending at the end of its sixth season saying, "there’s two very clear arcs to get to that end and conclude." However, he added he could see the show lasting beyond that if a new breakout star is found.

Whew. Syfy has picked up the third season of Continuum. I don't have to figure out how to follow it without a U.S. broadcaster.

Brace yourselves, Fox is planning on adapting Broadchurch. From what I've heard about the original, that could be a challenge. Besides, I'm having a hard time imagining Fox coming up with casting as exciting as David Tennant, Arthur Darvill and Olivia Colman.

Jeremy Jordan

TVLine reports that Jeremy Jordan will appear on Elementary as the son of the man who died under Joan's care.

Someone on Etsy made a dollhouse for your Blanche, Rose Dorothy and Sophia paper dolls. Thank you for being a friend to everything good, Etsy artist.

Golden Girls DollhouseI never considered how that home has such an odd layout.

Bravo has ordered a third season of Million Dollar Listing New York.

I'm going to miss having the city I live in accurately represented on TV, but it was fun while it lasted.

Breaking Bad billboard

That poor Romney campaign, still oppressed by liberal media bias.

Friday's Listings

America's Next Top Model (CW) 8:00 PM ET

The CW's campy competition series is back for another summer — and this time the competition is going co-ed with aspiring male models in the mix. That's right, after years of showing up just to spice up a challenge, the guys are a part of the competition. If you only listen to good reviews this is totally the best season ever. (Ah, Tyra, thank you for being you.)

America's Next Top Model Cycle 20Don't worry, ANTM won't treat its male competitors any better by the looks of things.

Comedy Bang! Bang! (IFC) 10:00 PM ET

David Cross visits the show this week, hopefully in a Thing costume and needing help to get undressed.

Continuum (Syfy) 10:00 PM ET

The next step in the origins of Alec and Theseus comes when their mother takes a bullet meant for Julian. Since Julian's not the type to take adversity in stride, that leaves Kiera in her own version of "If you could go back in time and kill Hitler as a child, would you do it?"

Continuum, "Seconds"

Real Time with Bill Maher (HBO) 10:00 PM ET

Tonight's panel has a gay conservative and a gay liberal with Josh Barro and Barney Frank (as well as the faboo Alexis Goldstien — I'm getting the feeling Bill watched Up with Chris Hayes). I'm popping my popcorn now.

John Oliver's New York Stand-Up Show (Comedy Central) 11:00 PM ET

Tonight's lineup has Joe Zimmerman, Sara Schaefer and Tom Lennon. Plus, John weighs in on t-shirt cannons, which sadly doesn't compare to learning about his reaction to Daily Show slash.

SheZow (The Hub) 12:30 PM ET

It turns out there's some kind of license that SheZow must renew by defeating a tattooed man. I think that means there's a superhero permitting process or SheZow is taking over a circus sideshow.

Sinbad Marathon (Syfy) starting at 6:00 PM ET

In what seems like the inevitable end once Sinbad was cancelled before it could air on Syfy, disappointing ratings have led to a burn-off run of the remaining, unaired episodes. Come back next week when I say the same thing about Sinbad's former time slot mate, Primeval: New World.

Hunt for the Labyrinth Killer (Lifetime) 8:00 PM ET

If I thought the promos for that Magda Apanowicz movie looked rather Saw-inspired, here's one about a serial killer with a theme (this one uses mazes, which doesn't at all like something the killer from Whodunnit? rejected for being too ridiculous) and the district attorney who must prove her father isn't the killer.

The Labyrinth KillerSurprise! This Lifetime movie also has a handsome detective.

Too Cute! (Animal Planet) 9:00 PM ET

Animal Planet gets back to putting the kawaii on display with the third season of its anthology of adorable. The first chapter features puppies and piglets.

Being Human (BBC America) 10:00 PM ET

The gang are asked to look after a werewolf who has been isolated from society since the 80s. I hope that means he'll ask to for an update about all the great Nena singles he's missed in the meantime.

Being Human"The boys are being homoerotic again."

Sunday's Listings

Doctor Who Live: The Next Doctor (BBC America) 2:00 PM

For the first time, Doctor Who fans in the UK and stateside get to tune in to find out who will be next actor to step into the role of the Doctor. Since I'm not expecting a familiar name, I expect there will be examples of the new Doctor's past work.

American Ninja Warrior (G4) 9:00 PM ET

It's back to Baltimore for the qualifying rounds.

Drop Dead Diva (Lifetime) 9:00 PM ET

A pageant contestant goes to court hoping to prove she lost because the contest was fixed. I'm sure Jane will have some special insight for this case — if she doesn't get distracted by Stacy's desire to make Grayson her sperm donor.

Drop Dead Diva, "Missed Congeniality"

True Blood (HBO) 9:00 PM ET

This season better end with Sarah Newlin dead. Sure, True Blood characters have done terrible things but sadistically issuing orders involving torture and cruel experimentation reaches for Russel levels of awful. This week, that awfulness involves threatening all the vampires who won't drink the tainted True Blood with sunlight exposure.

Whodunnit? (ABC) 9:00 PM ET

Yep, they did it. They finally dropped a chandelier on somebody. Since even that's not sure-fire enough for someone like the killer, there's bound to be some elaborate set-up to make sure there's a murder. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that one of those plastic leis was an element in an elaborate deathtrap.

Whodunnit?, "Party Crasher"Can we get the producers of Whodunnit? to work on the new season of Revenge?

They probably have great ideas of what Emily can do to people.

Copper (BBC America) 10:00 PM ET

There's a mysterious illness spreading in Five Points and the enlightened, forward-thinking ways of Freeman is working to contain it.

Devious Maids (Lifetime) 10:00 PM ET

Marisol runs into a former student, which threatens to blow her cover and make Evelyn nod knowingly about how Marisol knew how to conjugate English verbs (unlike all the other maids on this show).

Devkous Maids, "Taking a Message"I guess its a Beverly Hills thing to have your staff model citrus. Or something.

The Newsroom (HBO) 10:00 PM ET

Despite having to sit through a deposition, Maggie tries to claim her trip to Africa was no big deal.

What will you be watching this weekend? Please share in the comments!

Monday's Preview

The Fosters Marathon (ABC Family) starting at Noon ET

While the end of new episodes of The Fosters sounds like a terrible thing, at least there's a marathon of the excellent first season leading into the finale.
