TV on Tap: How "Game of Thrones" Failed Loras, David Lynch Rejoins "Twin Peaks" And That "Good Wife" Scene Was Faked

News

Michael Ausiello says he has learned that the final scene between Julianna Margulies and Archie Panjabi on The Good Wife was indeed faked in post-production. He's pretty unhappy that the two actors couldn't overcome their grudge to film one important scene together.

Salon contends that Game of Thrones ruined Loras Tyrell with the changes made between the books and the show. Several departures were made from Loras' the books, unfortunately the show has been unable to come up with stories for Loras that aren't about his sexual orientation. Another problem has been expecting viewers to accept the Sparrows as a religious movement coming from the left.

The Twin Peaks sequel is back on with David Lynch back on the project and Showtime promising more episodes than the original nine announced.

Gay sitcoms aren't failing because they're bad (even though they several recent ones have been very bad indeed), they're failing because comedy is struggling on broadcast TV.

In a Buzzfeed article about the queer characters of Orphan Black, co-creator John Fawcett expresses empathy with Delphine, the woman who identifies as straight and falls in love with Cosima. "I can think of three examples in my life that have been like that, that just wanted to be with the right person... It’s not about questioning your sexuality or not questioning your sexuality — it’s about finding your person."

Among the challenges of the upcoming season of The Bachelorette is one where the competitors go on a date with Amy Schumer who goes on to share her impressions with the Bachelorette. When it comes to attempts to get me to watch The Bachelorette, this one might actually work for an episode, or however long Schumer is on screen.

TV Guide talked with Guillermo Diaz who says he doesn't know if he'll be working on Scandal next season. "Now we have to wait and see. I have no idea if I'm dead or alive! We have no idea." I see that Scandal's backing itself into a corner with Huck, but I'd sure miss my weekly time with Diaz.

Vulture critic Matt Zoller Seitz discusses the rise of "fast TV" — shows like Empire or How to Get Away with Murder, shows that speed through plot so quickly viewers don't have time to predict the next big plot twist based on their knowledge of storytelling tropes. Not only do they speed through story, they're good at delivering the moments that get turned into video clips or gifs that get widely shared. Seitz contrasts that to the "slow TV" of Mad Men or The Americans — shows that still manage to shock the audience but put character first and carefully set up the developments.
