"HTGAWM" Returns, And "Legends of Tomorrow" Promises Another First: TV ON TAP

Will The CW's "Legends" include a member of the Doom Patrol?

News

The CW realized that superhero comic-reading nerds haven't had a meltdown for a few days, so they revealed that the upcoming Legends of Tomorrow will introduce another character who has never been on TV.

Stephanie Corneliussen, who was marvelously creepy on Mr. Robot as Joanna, will play Valentina Vostok, who is described as a loyal Soviet physicist working during the height of the Cold War. In the comics, Vostok was a member of the cult-fave super team The Doom Patrol. As The Negative Woman, a negative energy being merged with her body after her plane crashed during an attempt to defect to the U.S. It'll be interesting to see how much the CW version will relate to her comic book counterpart — and if she brings any elements of the Doom Patrol with her.

While I really enjoyed the debut of Scream Queens, I'm more than a little worried by the news that Ariana Grande will recur through the season. At least, I hope they have a plan and aren't going to be bringing people back from the dead with little sense like in American Horror Story: Coven.

E-sports is going to get a chance to demonstrate if it can draw a television audience, as TBS is planning to air 20 matches of competitive video gaming.

During the Emmy's, Andy Samberg gave out what he said was his HBO Go login. While the premium channel knew there was going to be a joke about them, they say they didn't know exactly what it would be, but they quickly set up an account to match the details he gave out.

Unfortunately, it's too late to use the credentials since the account has maxed out its login limits. However, we did just learn that HBO Now has login limits.

Netflix says it has figured out at which point viewers are hooked on a show, or specifically how many episodes it would take before most viewers ended up watching the whole first season. Bates Motel, Scandal and Breaking Bad are among the most addictive shows, as it only took two episodes to get someone hooked to watch the whole first season, while Daredevil took a more patient five episodes. Interestingly, the slow-build of Sense8 manages to have viewers addicted in just 3 episodes.

Vulture explains that reality TV's best days are in the past. Not only have there been no big reality hits in a while, the current state of TV works against it. Nowadays, a lot of TV shows make money when they're sold to streaming services like Netflix, but subscribers aren't very interested in reality shows.

Tuesday's ratings saw The Muppets beat Scream Queens, though both shows improved the ratings from what aired in the time slot last year. (Not a challenge since we're discussing Selfie and Utopia, two of last season's big bombs.) Meanwhile, Fresh Off The Boat also had a strong season premiere, adding viewers since its season finale.

Scream Queens debut wasn't an instant hit but Fox claims they're not worried since they expect it to do better with viewers who don't watch broadcast TV right away.

Heroes Reborn (NBC) 8:00 PM ET

Sure, the first season of Heroes was great. It was the kind of great that viewers stuck around as it kept getting worse and worse. Now, NBC is hoping nostalgia for the good days will get people to come back for a 13 episode "event miniseries" set five years after the series ended, with returning faves (Masi Oka, Jack Coleman, Cristine Rose) and some new additions (Zachary Levi, Ryan Guzman). Will the magic return? It can't be a good sign that no one realize that superhero fans don't associate the title Heroes Reborn with good storytelling.

Chopped (Food Network) 9:00 PM ET

One Teen Tournament has ended, now it's time for a Teen Redeem competition with Italian cookies, peanut butter and a "nostalgic candy." Er, how many candies inspire nostalgia in teen chefs?

Scandal (ABC) 9:00 PM ET

One of the craziest shows on TV is back with Cyrus, Mellie and Huck still facing the wrath of Command. ABC had a smash hit last year fueled by a powerhouse performance by Viola Davis, the off-the-charts sexiness of Jack Falahee, watery eyes and a pair of mysteries full of crazy twists. Now it's time to get back to the Keating Five, a couple weeks after we learned the truth about Frank's death and there's already a new dead body to explain. There's also the matter of Oliver and his HIV diagnosis.

The Player (NBC) 10:00 PM ET

NBC doesn't have just one wild action drama featuring a Strike Back alum. The Player has Philip Winchester co-staring with Wesley Snipes in this drama about a Las Vegas security expert who finds himself drawn into an organization that's looking to set bets on whether he can stop some big crimes from happening. Now, what can we do to get a crossover with Blindspot that doubles as a Strike Back reunion?
