Farewell "Key & Peele," Stephen Colbert Took Pay Cut For "Late Show," Frankie Muniz Wants "Malcolm in the Middle" Sequel: TV ON TAP

We'll miss the comedy duo's take on current events.

News

People assume that going from cable to network TV gave Stephen Colbert a pay raise but Time says he's actually getting paid less as host of The Late Show than when he was at The Colbert Report. He's also getting less than his competitors, at least until ratings show that he can compete with the Jimmys, Conan and the late night line-ups on Adult Swim and Comedy Central (which have outperformed the broadcast networks among younger viewers in the past).

Radio Times reports that Netflix is close to picking up the anthology series Black Mirror, taking it over from the UK's Channel 4. After the first two seasons, I'm up for more Black Mirror. I hope Netflix will let creator Charlie Brooker make as many episodes as he has story ideas.

Frankie Muniz is talking about a sequel series to Malcolm in the Middle. While it feels a bit soon for Malcolm to have a mid-life crisis (as Muniz suggests) that's a universe I'd like to revisit — providing the creative team manages to put together something that's a worthy successor. Besides, it might finally exorcise the internet of all its jokes about Hal becoming a meth manufacturer.

Netlifx chief Neil Hunt threw some shade in the direction of streaming rival Amazon as well as the former Top Gear hosting trio of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May, saying that Amazon paid too much to get its version of Top Gear. ""We have past episodes of Top Gear, so we have a pretty good gauge of what audiences like... Our buying decisions tend to be somewhat data-driven... Clearly it wasn't worth the money to make the deal."

[image src="wp-attachment://376020" title="Small Wonder" alt="Small Wonder 80s sitcom"]

The story of working on Small Wonder turns out to be much more complicated than the plots of Small Wonder. That seems apt. The show was designed to be so cheaply made it couldn't help but make money and it turns out the plots were similarly designed not to be too challenging to the viewer or the crew.

In light of last night's Late Night debut, Vulture picks the 32 Greatest Talk Show Hosts Ever, a list that doesn't waste any time with the notorious trainwrecks like Chevy Chase. That stiff competition leaves Joan Rivers at number 29.

Five years ago, Terriers debuted on FX, a critically-beloved drama that never got the ratings it deserved and came just a little too early for FX to keep it going just on the basis of that critical buzz. If only it came along a couple years later.

Difficult People (Hulu) streaming

Billy and Julie venture into the world of podcasting, a format that's been great for a lot of comedians — though that requires one have, at the least, the people skills of a Marc Maron. I'm not sure these two can reach a bar that high. Meanwhile, Julie manages to get her personal troll to meet with her, while Billy learns there's a downside to anonymous bathroom sex with a guy you meet at the indoor dog park.

Happily Divorced Marathon (Logo) 6:00 PM ET

I don't often see TV Land's underappreciated (at least based on the mere two seasons it got) comedy on the schedule, so I figure it's worth noting that today Logo is airing 6 episodes.

America's Next Top Model (CW) 8:00 PM ET

As the house becomes a more stressful place (yeah, this show is turning into The Real World with photoshoots) the models find things become even more stressful with a shoot where they are suspended mid air to look posessed.

Young & Hungry (ABC Family) 8:00 PM ET

Sofia's brother Benji comes for a visit and Gabi isn't sure how to handle the discovery of how hot he's gotten since she knew him as a little kid. That gets even more complicated when he asks her out. Meanwhile, Josh and Yolanda decide to throw a last minute bachelor party of Elliott and end up turning to a gay dating app out of desperation.

Big Brother (CBS) 8:00 PM ET

If it's Wednesday, it must be time for the Veto competition.

The Carbonaro Effect (TruTV) 9:00 PM ET

This week, Michael goes to work at an eyeglass shop where he introduces a customer to a new "Midas Touch" spray that gives things a lovely gold finish. Then he gets some on his hands and suddenly the eyeglass shop is full of bling.

Key & Peele (Comedy Central) 10:00 PM ET

In four seasons, Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele managed to create memorable characters and an actual cultural influence thanks to characters like Luther, President Obama's anger translator. Last week, they showed they weren't close to running out of ideas, introducing a take on Neil Degrasse Tyson that could have been a great recurring character. Still, the comedy duo goes on top with an hour-long finale that includes a big musical number and Ray Parker Jr.

Impastor (TV Land) 10:30 PM ET

For the season's penultimate episode, it's a memento of the past that threatens to undo Buddy's lies and that's complicated when an assassin shows up in Ladner looking for Buddy. Things are getting complicated as the finale nears. Plus, Dora seeks lessons to get her Katniss on.

[image src="wp-attachment://376032" title="You're the Worst" alt="You're the Worst Aya Cash Chris Geere FX FXX"]

You're the Worst (FXX) 10:30 PM ET

At some point last year, I'm guessing the FX bosses were pitched a show about an unbearable jerk and his impossibly patient girlfriend. However, since FX had Married in the works, they decided to do a relationship comedy where they're both unbearable jerks and, thus, You're the Worst happened. Still, some critics and viewers found You're the Worst to have its own cynical charm. Me, after a few episodes I found myself just as interested in watching more Married.

The Exes (TV Land) 11:00 PM ET

If this show were continuing for another season, this would feel like an episode that sets up a reboot as Stuart decides to sell his dental practice to pursue his dream of opening a restaurant. (It could have been The Exes version of the time Mrs. Garrett resigned at Eastland to open her own bake shop.) Sadly, with the series finale coming up that's not going to happen.
