"Scream Queens" Pledges The Fall Season, "The Muppets" Hit The Stage And "Black-ish" Aims For A Presidential Guest-Star: TV ON TAP

Who will be the final girl when "Scream Queens" reaches the end of its first season?

Sure, the fall season began yesterday, but tonight is when the fall season starts getting really exciting with two of the most eagerly anticipated new shows debuting.

News

Even though Buzzfeed reported yesterday that E! has renewed I Am Cait for a second season, Vulture says that a second season isn't certain yet. Vulture says E! is discussing plans for a second season, which means the channel is definitely considering it, but it's not official.

CBS released a new trailer for Supergirl and it looks pretty good. Should we stop worrying so much about how that Red Tornado costume looked?

Actors have now become comfortable using Twitter and broadcast networks want to give you reason to watch a show as it airs with the commercials. Thus, you can expect live tweet campaigns to become inescapable. However, don't expect to see shows promoting themselves on Snapchat anytime soon, as TV exec have yet to figure out how to make Snapchat work with a wide audience.

Fox has given the midseason comedy Cooper Barret's Guide to Surviving Life a vote of confidence, ordering 7 more episodes, giving the series a total of 13 episodes. The comedy stars Justin Bartha as a family man in his 40s who spends time with a group of people in their twenties to live through their youthful mistakes.

Anthony Anderson tells E! news he's trying to get President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama to appear on Anderson's comedy Black-ish. "They watch the show... They love it. We know them so we've been dealing with them and their people and hopefully they'll say yes." I hope Anderson's

One factor that will put more pressure on Best Time Ever to keep up its ratings, NBC is paying $3 million per episode which is more than many scripted shows. Ratings for the premiere weren't great but they weren't terrible either, so it will need to (at least) hold on to a large number of the viewers that watched last week's premiere.

This year's Emmy Awards was watched by 11.9 million viewers, giving the ceremony a new ratings low.

The Ellen DeGeneres Show (syndicated) Check local listings

With the fall season warming up, Ellen's talking with Taraji P Henson  about the hottest returning show, Empire and Lea Michele about one of the hottest new shows, Scream Queens.

The Hotwives of Las Vegas (Hulu) streaming

The season's over which means it's time for Paul Scheer to put on his Andy Cohen imitation for a full episode of rehashing all of last season's fights.

The Awesomes (Hulu) streaming

Things have been going terribly for the team and public opinion has gotten so bad that the government has decided to disband them and have Mr Awesome assemble a new group of heroes. For the disgraced former Awesomes, that means they're now stuck moving in with Prock's mother, an anti-superhero activist who still writes books calling for tougher regulation of superheroes.

The Mindy Project (Hulu) streaming

Mindy's due date is coming up and it's only now that she's having a talk with Danny about their opinions about childbirth. Danny's been presuming that she'd have a natural childbirth, but she's already scheduled her c-section.

The Muppets (ABC) 8:00 PM ET

It's time to play the music, it's time to light the lights, it's time to get things started on a new take on The Muppets. Instead of playing with the format and style of the variety show as The Muppet Show did, this one mixes the mockumentary style with the showbiz satire of 30 Rock. The Muppets is pushing the envelope, from technical innovations that let The Muppets be filmed in a way that the camera gets to move freely along with a more mature sense of humor and character, like jokes about Miss Piggy's sexual conquests. I guess it won't take long to find out if TV audiences can accept that.

Scream Queens (Fox) 8:00 PM ET

Horror is having a moment on TV. Audiences can't get enough of monsters, zombies and small town serial killers. Now, Fox is joining in with this campy, comedic horror series for those of you who tried to watch American Horror Story but ended up spending an hour covering your eyes. Judging from the opening titles released a few weeks ago, this one should be full of references to horror movies that came before Scream transformed the genre.

Fresh Off the Boat (ABC) 8:30 PM ET

Last year, out Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23 creator Nahnatchka Khan returned to TV and channeled that creative talent into a show that gave Randall Park and Constance Wu the chance to shine. (And, this time, Park didn't have to bring up his military record.) Fresh Off The Boat also gave ABC a chance to finally make some amends for the terrible All-American Girl. Tonight, the second season kicks off with a business trip for Louis that's a vacation for the rest of the family.

Face Off (Syfy) 9:00 PM ET

The artists who survived last week's gauntlet (which was amazing) now face the Apocalypse. Or, rather, they are assigned to come up with their take on the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

Chopped (Food Network) 10:00 PM ET

It's the finale for this year's Teen Tournament. The initial basket has them combining jarred seafood and candy. If they make it to the entrée course, they'll have to break down a giant fish.

Limitless (CBS) 10:00 PM ET

After notable runs on Greek and Shameless (we're working hard to forget about last year's Manhattan Love Story), Jake McDorman stars in this adaptation of the 2011 Bradley Cooper movie about a man who finds a drug that enhances his abilities to super-heroic levels. McDorman is the new guy to start taking NZT and finds his life changed, with Cooper reprising his movie role for tonight's debut (he's a Senator now, so someone needs to take over the world-changing duties). In addition to Cooper, the recurring cast includes the great Ron Rifkin and Blair Brown as McDorman's parents.

Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris (NBC) 10:00 PM ET

Okay, so that premiere was a bit awkward. Secretly following a couple wasn't a particularly entertaining prank, even if it ended in a prize. I figured Neil Patrick Harris hosting a variety show would involve more magic, especially in the pranks. (Michael Carbonaro mixes the two so well.) Still, the final number was great and I thought Little NPH was a hoot. Tonight Alec Baldwin is the guest announcer. Let's hope he gets the chance to be as great here as he is on Saturday Night Live.

Chopped: After Hours (Food Network) 11:00 PM ET

The second late night Chopped sees judges Marc Murphy, Scott Conant and Maneet Chauhan's take on the breakfast challenge.
