“White Collar” Returns with More Matt Bomer and “Mythbusters” Takes on Zombies

The past few years has seen rejected pilots get second chances. In 2007, CBS rejected Babylon Fields, an ahead-of-its-time zombie drama about a town where people rise from the dead and return to their old homes. Now, NBC is giving the series another try according to Deadline. I expect it will have to work to avoid seeming like a copycat of shows that came afterward like In the Flesh and Les Revenants.

It’s official. Ronan Farrow will host a show on MSNBC starting in 2014. Farrow says he wants to create a show that works as “a guide on how people can have agency in the story”. In the meantime, expect to see more of Farrow on MSNBC.

Last night, South Park missed an air date for ths first time in 240 episodes due to a power outage the previous night that made it impossible to get those last-minute touches done.

Vince Gilligan talked with The Hollywood Reporter about the Breaking Bad spin-off Better Call Saul and revealed a few new details. In addition to saying he’s hoping to film the show in Albuquerque, he confirmed that the prequel would have room to include appearances by familiar Breaking Bad characters, including Walter White or Jonathan Banks’ detective, Mike.

TVLine reports that Martin Donovan will be appearing in the second season of Hannibal as another character’s therapist.

In talking to TVLine, The Good Wife producer Robert King promised the show isn’t backing away from a romance for Kalinda, but that they’re being cautious after the disaster that resulted last year when they introduced Kalinda’s husband.

The TV Land pilot Jennifer Falls has added two very funny women to its cast — Jessica Walter and Greek alum Nora Kirkpatrick. The comedy stars Jamie Pressly as a hot-tempered woman who moves back to the small town where she grew up after losing her job. Walters will play Pressly’s mother while Kirkpatrick will play her sister-in-law. Previously, Missi Pyle was cast as Pressly’s childhood friend. This pilot is starting to have an intense concentration of funny women.

I let out a sigh of relief when I read TVLine’s report that Margo Martindale would be returning for the second season of The Americans. Then I noticed we’re only getting a promise for one episode with Claudia.

Margo Martindale in "The Americans"So much better than making fart jokes on The Millers.

There’s been two recent instances when Barbara Walters responded to reports by saying that there is “no truth to this story” and both stories turned out to be true. There’s no reason believe them when they say it now.

Has it only been three years since Ugly Betty ended? It feels a lot longer, thus I’m thrilled to see Deadline report that America Ferrera will be starring in a CBS pilot as a nun who performs legal work for the less fortunate. Considering how activist nuns (Sister Helen Prejean and the Nuns on the Bus for example) have been in the news, that sounds pretty timely.

It’s about time Glenn got some attention for being the hot one on The Walking Dead.

Steven Yuen in "The Walking Dead"The best moment of The Walking Dead’s second season came when Glenn finally took off his cap.

The Shield creator Shawn Ryan is developing a drama for Fox that would be set in 1957 Hawaii, two years before the islands became the 50th state. There’s a lot of promise there, providing the casting doesn’t ignore that Hawaii has always been a majority-minority state.

The return of White Collar brings Matt Bomer back for another talk with Rachael. Maybe this will be the time we get to see Matt cook.

Rachael Ray and Matt Bomer

The Big Bang Theory (CBS) 8:00 PM ET
If Sheldon couldn’t take Amy pointing out his favorite movie isn’t perfect, can he handle working with her? Probably not, but any episode where Sheldon is miserable works for me.

Parks & Recreation (NBC) 8:00 PM ET
Turns out, meeting their Eagleton doppelgangers was a just a prelude to Tatiana Maslany’s arrival in Pawnee, as a woman who Tom hopes to impress. Sadly, there are no clones in this storyline because I’d like to see a version of Tom’s uptight, murdering househusband clone. Or his hip gay scientist clone.

Sean Saves the World (NBC) 9:00 PM ET
At least Sean Saves the World isn’t avoiding Sean’s love life. Tonight he goes on a blind date — even better, guest star Robert Gant plays the date. There’s also a storyline where Sean’s boss thinks Sean’s got a crush on him. I would be dreading that if Thomas Lennon weren’t delivering this show’s funniest moments.

Sean Hayes and Robert Gant in "Sean Saves the World"TV needs more Robert Gant.

Project Runway (Lifetime) 9:00 PM ET
After a few disappointing seasons, Project Runway has managed to be great again, so much so that I can’t decide who I want to win. There’s a lot of talent among the finalists.

White Collar (USA) 9:00 PM ET
It’s a new season and Peter needs to save Neal… or Neal needs to save Peter, it’s all a bit of a blur, probably from having my brain shut down from looking at pictures of Matt Bomer too many times. I’m just thrilled to have White Collar back with new episodes.

Matt Bomer and Tim DeKay in "White Collar"Okay, I guess that answers who’s saving who this time.

Reign (CW) 9:00 PM ET
Apparently, The CW wanted a show that captured that Game of Thrones mania minus the fantasy, but keeping the gratuitous sex — only tamed down for broadcast TV. Yeah, that sounds like a must-watch, if only to debate if the show with hunky teen Nostradamus is crazier than the show where the Headless Horseman has discovered semi-automatic guns.

Mythbusters (Discovery) 10:00 PM ET
As zombies are all the rage right now, the Mythbusters team is dedicating an episode to zombie lore. Walking Dead alum Michael Rooker shows up to remind us he’s a lot nicer than Merle ever was.

Scandal (ABC) 10:00 PM ET
As far as I’m concerned, the only sympathetic characters on Scandal are the torturer, the tortuerer-in-training and the hapless attorney. The previews for tonight’s episode show Olivia facing a suicide bomber. As long as Huck and Quinn are okay, I’m expecting to enjoy the chaos. Meanwhile, “Fitz and Millie admit their true feelings for each other.” I believe that should involve the phrase, “hate with the heat of a thousand suns.”

Guillermo Diaz in "Scandal"Maybe Huck could convince Olivia to get her library sciences degree and settle down.

Covert Affairs (USA) 10:00 PM ET
After a couple seasons of being a light espionage thriller about a CIA where (almost) everyone takes care of each other, Covert Affairs got dark. Now, Annie has gone rogue after faking her death — just as Covert Affairs moves to the night that used to be the home of Burn Notice.

Elementary (CBS) 10:00 PM ET
While Sherlock and Joan try to solve a poisoning, a woman from Sherlock’s past shows up. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for another bit of referencing back to Doyle’s stories. That’s still where Elementary is the most interesting.

Conan (TBS) 11:00 PM ET
Dallas Buyers Club’s Jared Leto is on tonight’s show.

What will you be watching tonight? Please share in the comments!

Clinton Kelley is talking on tomorrow’s show as well as a “quick” Coq Au Vin recipe. I’ll be trying not to yell “Blasphemer!” at the TV.

The View (ABC) Check local listings
Mario Cantone is returning to the show tomorrow.

Lyle Masaki is a fan of obscure superheroes, video games, adorkable guys and that show you loved that got cancelled way too soon.
