Twitter Wants Marvel To #GiveCaptainAmericaABoyfriend

Stucky forever!

Following in the footsteps of the online petition to give Elsa a girlfriend in the upcoming Frozen sequel, a new hashtag has been trending on Twitter: #GiveCaptainAmericaABoyfriend.

Twitter user Jess Salerno started the campaign with a short tweet on May 10:

Now the hashtag is the number one trending topic on the social media site with over 85,000 tweets urging Marvel and Disney to make Captain America and his sidekick Bucky a couple.

People online have been stanning for Captain America and Bucky-or Stucky-as boyfriends since before Captain America: Civil War was released with pages of fanart on Tumblr. It looks like the campaign has finally caught on with the rest of the internet.

“I feel like it sucks that people in the LGBT community don’t get the representation that they deserve and it would be so amazing for something like Captain America or Marvel to be able to portray that, and maybe just let people know that it’s okay to be who you are. You know?” Salerno told Metro U.K. on why she started the hashtag. “You don’t have to be scared, especially to be able to have children grow up in that way, I feel like it would do amazing things for the future.”

I write about drag queens. Dolly Parton once ruffled my hair and said I was "just the cutest thing ever."
