Tyrese Gibson Drags Ellen DeGeneres And Andy Cohen Into The #OscarsSoWhite Drama

Is Hollywood more concerned with accommodating LGBTs than black actors?

Tyrese Gibson sounded off on the controversy surrounding the 2016 Academy Awards' list of all-white actors nominated in the Best Actor categories, and invoked the LGBT community in wondering how the conversation would be different if the controversy were #OscarsSoStraight.

Gibson aired his frustrations about the controversy and criticized Chris Rock for not stepping down from his hosting gig in a recent interview with TheGrio.

He said he's disappointed that Rock hasn't used his platform to draw attention to Hollywood's diversity problem, and claimed the black community has become complacent in its fight for equality.

"If Ellen DeGeneres or Andy Cohen of Watch What Happens Live was hosting the Oscars and the word got out that if you happen to be gay or homosexual you got blackballed and no nomination because of your sexual preference, they would have stepped down a long time ago," he said. "And it would have been fire heat controversy all over the place until the system changed."

Then, he claimed Hollywood is more concerned with accommodating LGBTs over black actors.

In a message posted to Instagram afterward, Gibson added, "In this town I guess it takes homosexuals to be discriminated against in Oder [sic] for someone to finally step UP and wanna do something... You have to take your hat off to the homosexual and gay community cause right now they're as strong as black people USE [sic] to be when it comes to their rights…"

For what it's worth, Gibson said he doesn't think Rock should step down from his hosting gig because it would only hurt his family.
