UVA Swim Team Posts Heartwarming "2 Of Us Are Gay" Photo

University of Virginia

The University of Virginia swim team recently discovered that two of its teammates are gay, and decided to make a statement about it: They posted a group photo with a sign that reads "2 of us are gay.  The other 3 don't care,"

Team member Parker Camp opened up about his sexuality to Outsports:

For many athletes, coming out to their teammates is the hard part. For me, though, once I had the support of my family, the rest was easy ... In the past two weeks, I have told guys on the team I am closest to and they have been uniformly accepting and supportive. No, I haven’t cornered all 40 guys to tell them I like dudes, but I still consider myself out to everyone, which is good enough for me ... It’s important to know that there is no single way of going about this, but the end result will almost always be the same: Happiness.

The team has been more than supportive of Camp and the other out swimmer. "Taking the photo with them was the least I could do to prove to them that our friendships are unaffected by their coming out," said one teammate. "But I'm pretty sure the only reason Parker asked to hold the sign was to hide how fat he's become since our season ended!"
