Transgender model Valentina Sampaio stuns on the cover of Elle Brazil’s November issue, marking an important moment for trans visibility.
Sampaio first made waves this past March when she officially came out as a transgender woman in a video for International Women’s Day. The video was released with L’Oreal Paris, for whom she is an ambassador.
“Beauty is something that transcends the body—it comes from the soul,” she begins. “It’s great when you accept yourself, when you know what you’re worth.”
The 19-year-old model was widely celebrated for the move and spent the next few months modeling on runways and in print, before shooting the breathtaking cover for Elle.
Agradecida a todos que, de uma maneira ou outra, me trouxeram até aqui. A força de vcs todos só aumentou a minha força. Ainda preciso de tempo pra entender o que tudo isso significa, por enquanto só há a agradecer… Muuito feliz e emocionada.❤✨ #gratidão #felicidade #estreiando #vsstorm #maisamorporfavor #world #boasenergias #luz #elle #ellebrasil #eunaelle #capa #valentinasampaio #valentts #bomdia #brasil
The cover comes at a time of increased representation for trans models in mainstream media, including a recent H&M spot starring the gorgeous actress and model Hari Nef, a Harper’s Bazaar India cover series featuring Tracey Africa and Geena Rocero and the new Whoopi Goldberg reality show Strut, which follows a group of models at a transgender modeling agency.
