A grassroots center serving queer Southeast Asian youth in Providence, Rhode Island, has been broken into, and a noose hung from the rafters.

Sarath Suong, executive director at Providence Youth Student Movement (PrYSM), reported on the breakin, which he says occurred some time between Sunday afternoon and morning morning.

Most of the vandalism was minor—chairs stacked, rulers and scissors rearranged and all the drawers were opened. But, Suong recounts, two knives were stabbed into a table and a noose was found hanging from the ceiling.

"Maybe it was a prank, but IT IS NOT funny," he wrote on Facebook. "But I don't think it's a joke, I think we were sent a CLEAR message."

In response, Suong told the vandals, "You will not intimidate us, you will not steer us away from our mission, you will never dampen our spirit—you have only motivated us even more... Oh, and fuck you.

Prysm was founded in 2001. According to its homepage, it "mobilizes queer Southeast Asian youth, families, and allies to build grassroots power and organize collectively for social justice." Current campaigns address police brutality, street violence and deportation.
