Friends meet — and reconnect — on R Family Vacations. It’s not just for gay parents anymore!
Ever since 2003, R Family Vacations has been sending LGBT travelers and their friends on tailor-made group vacations all over the planet. Founded by Kelli Carpenter (a former marketing exec at Nickelodeon) and Gregg Kaminsky (who boasts over a decade of travel industry and vacations planning), the mission of R Family was to provide safe and fun and holiday experiences for gay travelers and their families. And as the company was very visibly championed by Rosie O’Donnell (who was then Kelli’s wife), it became known as a landmark enterprise which focused on cruises and other vacation packages for gay folks with kids.
Of course, since then, the company has grown and expanded. This summer they’re even offering their first-ever land-based vacation at Club Med Ixtapa in Mexico in July.

Not content to only offer great vacation experiences to gay parents and their kids, R Family is eager to broaden their client base by welcoming single travelers or groups of friends traveling together. Simply put, you don’t have to have kids to have a fantastic time traveling with R Family.
As they put it on their website: “All of our vacations are designed for gays, lesbians, their families, and their friends. Everyone is welcome — singles, couples without children, couples with children, groups of friends, grandparents, and almost any other family configuration you can think of. We have hosted three-month-old babies and 80-something grandparents.”

In more fun R Family news, they’ve signed on great talent for their Club Med Ixtapa resort vacation (from July 10-17). Performers scheduled to participate include Tony-winner Audra McDonald, comedian/actor Alec Mapa, comedian Jessica Kirson, musician/author Seth Rudetsky, DJ David Knapp and the star of Broadway’s Hair, Tony-nominee Will Swenson.
Beyond July’s Club Med Ixtapa resort vacation, R Family has more vacations and cruises planned. This summer you can join their first-ever European cruise to Spain, France and Italy (June 20-27), or sign up for a Caribbean group cruise (August 14-21) on the world’s newest cruise ship, the Norwegian EPIC.
