Russia Has Just Banned Images Of Vladimir Putin In Drag

Sashay away, Putina.

If you've been praying for Vladimir Putin to be a contestant on RuPaul's Drag Race, we have some bad news: Depictions of the Russian president in drag have been banned by the government.

Though authorities didn't cite which Photoshopped image drew their ire, they condemned it for suggesting “the supposed nonstandard sexual orientation of the president of the Russian Federation.”

Memes featuring Putin in drag or otherwise acting effeminate have popped up online since 2013, when Russia passed its odious "gay propaganda" ban. Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov praised his boss for being "quite resilient to these vulgarities."

"Our legislation has, so to say, a certain code defending a citizen’s honor and dignity, including those of the president," he told the state-run news agency Tass. "Individuals need to be guided by these norms, so unfortunately, I can say nothing.”
