On Thursday (Aug. 16), Aretha Franklin passed away following a battle with pancreatic cancer.
As the music industry and the world mourned the loss of the Queen of Soul, pop star Ariana Grande extended her Thursday night appearance on The Tonight Show to join the Roots in a performance of the Queen of Soul’s classic, “Natural Woman.”
According to Variety, Roots bandleader Questlove convinced an uneasy Grande to take on the song, as she was worried she’d be too emotional to sing.
Earlier in the day, the pop star shared a photo she’d taken with Franklin.
Meanwhile on the internet, trolls continued to troll. Some Grande fans took to the internet to complain about Franklin’s passing the day before Grande’s Sweetener dropped.
