How To Talk To Girls At Parties

Adapted from a Neil Gaiman (American Gods) short story by director John Cameron Mitchell, this quirky and queer sci-fi romance is set in 1970s England, where a punk rocker teen named Enn (Alex Sharp) falls for an alien girl named Zan (Elle Fanning). (May 25, A24)

The Gospel According To Andre

The eventful life of trailblazing VOGUE creative director/American editor-at-large Andre Leon Talley is revealed in this entertaining and deep documentary, from his youth in segregation era North Carolina to years at the hottest fashion catwalk shows alongside Anna Wintour and other icons. (May 25, Magnolia)

DVD/Blu-Ray/Video on Demand

A Wrinkle In Time

Selma filmmaker Ava DuVernay directs this big-budget Disney adaptation of Madeleine L'Engle's classic YA book about Meg Murry (Storm Reid), a young girl who crosses time and space to rescue her father (Chris Pine). The notably diverse, all-star cast includes Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Kaling, Reese Witherspoon, Zach Galifianakis, Andre Holland, Michael Pena, and Levi Miller. (VOD, Disney)

Happiness Adjacent

Still reeling from a breakup, newly single Jewish gay guy Hank (Adam Fried) goes on a cruise to Mexico, during which he meets bisexual married guy Kurt (Ian Dick), who seems desperate for a little spice in his life. This latest romantic drama from prolific gay director Rob Willaims (Make The Yuletide Gay) was shot entirely on an iPhone 6S. (DVD, Guest House Films)

TV/Streaming

Animal Kingdom

The third season of this swampy crime family drama, inspired by the 2010 Australian film of the same name, sees the Cody clan's gay youngest son, Deran (Jake Weary), freshly out of the closet, while his ex, Adrian (Spencer Treat Clark), may yet re-enter the picture. (May 29, TNT)

Picnic At Hanging Rock: Season 1

Director Peter Weir’s spooky Aussie 1975 classic about three schoolgirls that go missing during an outing in 1900 gets a six-part series redux that amps up the lesbian subtext and eroticism and is darker to boot. (Amazon)

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Season 4

The fourth and reportedly final season of Netflix's comedy series, co-created by Tina Fey, is split into two parts, with these first six episodes dropping May 30th. Expect to see Mike Carlsen back as Titus' (Tituss Burgess) ex-boyfriend, Mikey, plus appearances by Jon Hamm, Amy Sedaris, Greg Kinnear, and more. (May 30, Netflix)

On Netflix
