Watch: Petal Performs Stripped-Down Version of "Stardust"

Sometimes you have to find the good in goodbye.

Indie-rock singer-songwriter Kiley Lotz, stage project name Petal, told NewNowNext her sophomore album Magic Gone is her most personal project to date and the result of taking time to invest in her mental health and come out of the closet as bisexual. One thing the performer says she learned to embrace as a result of this journey is not everything is going to be perfect—a theme you can sense in the album's closing track, "Stardust."

"Stardust" feels like a happy ending to a mostly heartbreaking journey of self-exploration with Petal reaching the conclusion that relationships sometimes have to end, even if you tried your best, and goodbye can be a gesture of love. It seems Petal is all about the journey and trusting the process even in songwriting (she said she began writing the track when she was 15 and finished it 12 years later).

Lotz shared an exclusive, stripped-down version of the beautiful, heartwrenching song with us. You can hear it below.
