Ricky Martin has collaborated with many legendary artists. Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Lopez, and Madonna to name a few. But on Saturday (June 2), Ricky Martin wrapped his six-show stay at the Monte Carlo Theater in Las Vegas by bringing his fans a duet they’ve been craving for over a decade—a duet with American Idol star William Hung.
In 2004, the world was introduced to Hung during his audition on season three of Idol. Before going viral was a thing, Hung’s rousing cover of Martin’s 2000 hit “She Bangs,” with his lackluster vocals and memorable dance moves, had America laughing for weeks.
Though the judges didn’t move Hung on to the next round of auditions in Hollywood, he became a pop culture sensation appearing on late night programs and even securing a record deal.
The 3rd step to face your fears is to check your progress.⠀ ⠀ For the first 4 years in my entertainment industry, I thought I was living the dream life. I was getting on Jay Leno, Ellen Degeneres, and Jimmy Kimmel. I had so many performance and commercial opportunities.⠀ ⠀ I thought I didn't need to do anything else.⠀ ⠀ However, things started to slow down and I can't sustain myself without changing paths.⠀ ⠀ That's why I go back to finish school and get my "day job" as a Statistical Analyst for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.⠀ ⠀ I was doing well financially but I don't want to sit around and hope my entertainment career will suddenly grow again.
The details are unknown, but during his final Vegas show, Martin invited Hung on stage to perform the song together for the first time ever.
Hung fans hoping the Idol contestant will restart the clock on his 15-minutes of fame shouldn’t get his hopes up. According to posts on his Instagram page, Hung has given up his pop star days and is now a traveling motivational speaker.
