Watch The First Trailer For Katherine Heigl's Lesbian Wedding Drama "Jenny's Wedding"

The trailer for Jenny's Wedding, the crowd-funded lesbian wedding dramedy starring polarizing actress Katherine Heig (written by Beaches scribe Mary Agnes Donohue) has just dropped.

Fortunately for Heigl, it looks like this may just be the redemption movie she's long needed.

The story centers around a Cleveland woman named Jenny (Heigl) and her partner Kitty (Alex Bledel), whom Jenny keeps a secret from her conservative family.

Her parents (Tom Wilkinson and Linda Emond) have been putting pressure on their daughter to settle down and marry like her two siblings for years.

When Jenny finally breaks the news that she does intend to marry–but to a woman–things, of course, go awry.

One great moment comes when her mom, crying outside a wedding store, tells Jenny, "Ever since you were a little girl, I've dreamed of seeing you get married. Now I don't even know if you'll wear a dress! Maybe you'll wear a suit."

"We're wearing dresses, Mom," Jenny says, flatly.

Thankfully, from the trailer, it looks like Jenny's parents have a come to Jesus moment.

While campaigning to raise money for the movie to be completed last year, Heigl spoke about how important it was for her to make this movie.

We filmed a year ago in Cleveland over 18 days—though it didn’t feel like 18 days because the cast really responded and felt passionately about it.

There is a Jenny in my life and family but this really isn’t her story, and the people who inspired the story have told me that they felt that we had captured them in the film.

This trailer couldn't be any timelier, with the SCOTUS ruling on marriage equality just a week ago.

Watch the heartwarming trailer below. Jenny's Wedding is in theaters July 31.
