As you’ve already heard by now, Weezer’s collaboration with Lil Wayne leaked into the blogosphere yesterday afternoon, and it’s…interesting.
In time for Weezer’s seventh album, Raditude, out next week, the unlikely collaboration, on a song aptly titled “Can’t Stop Partying,” signals an interesting move forward musically for both Weezer and Lil Wayne (who pled guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon last week and faces a year in jail).

Produced and co-written with hip-hop producers/emcees Polow da Don and Jermaine Dupri, the song’s so mindless and fun that it becomes a sugary parody of itself (Sample lyric: “I gotta have Patron, I gotta have the beat/I gotta have a lot of pretty girls around me”). It works, for the most part, but there’s nothing particularly special about this song. A solid pop tune: nothing more, nothing less.
The song’s curiosity factor is upped even further after Weezer landed a Lil Wayne verse in time before his anticipated jail sentence. And as for Jeezy’s verse: He’s had better days, and it’s all the more tragic because he REALLY sounds off in this one. Of course, he’s also been known to spout some homophobic nonsense from time-to-time, too. So, you’ve gotta be the judge of this one…
